ETA 10 October: I have finished my first playthrough of Kisses & Curses, and have added a few notes to that section.

Dear Yuletide Author,

Yuletide is my favorite fannish time of year, and I can’t wait to read your story. It brings me great joy to write stories for people for Yuletide, and I hope that you have a lot of fun and a wonderful experience writing for me. I’m on DW, LJ, and AO3 as escritoireazul.

Below, I’ve provided some general likes and Do Not Wants, and then my individual fandom requests, with prompts and reasons why I like the fandoms and characters. If there is a discrepancy between the general likes and DNWs and the fandom-specific information, go with the fandom-specific information. Feel free to mix and match prompts, within a fandom or across fandoms, or to ignore my prompts completely.

I’m always down for adding werewolves to a fandom. Always.

General Information, Likes, DNWs )

Requests

My requests are in alphabetical order. I love each of them, and would be absolutely delighted to receive a story for any of them. There are spoilers in each section.

SO LET US TALK ABOUT HOW TO NOMINATE THIS VIDEO.

Mostly, I am trying to decide how to nominate the characters. Despite MULTIPLE documents and news reports being included, I have not managed to make out either Demi or Michelle's character name, nor have I found it in any of the articles I've read about the video. It feels weird to nominate by their public names verses character names, but if that is what I have to do, it is what I will do.

Suggestions?

Day 2: talk about music this year

I haven't really listened to much new music this year, mostly because I haven't been listening to the radio. (In part because I generally only listen to the radio in the car, and since I haven't been commuting for work, I haven't been driving as much; in part because when I do drive, I listen to podcasts.) Instead, I will give you some of the songs off my Top 25 Most Played song list (of songs on my music player).

1. "Monster" Imagine Dragons: Hahahahahaha, oh, man, such a prime example of how WWE has influenced my musical tastes. I fell in love with this song when it was used for Wrestlemania 30 promo package for Daniel Bryan, and keep playing because it fits so nicely with a story BFF and I wrote.

embedded video )

2. "One More Time" 7Lions: ... yet another WWE inspired music discovery, used in the all the tribute stuff for the Ultimate Warrior. I listen to it A LOT when I can't sleep.

embedded video )

3. "Should've Known" The Heroes Lie: OKAY THIS IS RIDICULOUS I SWEAR I LISTEN TO MUSIC THAT WASN'T FEATURED BY WWE. This was used in a promo for Paul Heyman's dvd, and Paul Heyman is the Greatest Talker Ever, but I mostly love this song outside of the promo. The rhythm is infectious, and it makes me want to hit things, which is something I love in my music.

embedded video )

4. "Lights Go Out" Fozzy: *headdesk*

(Fozzy's lead singer is Chris Jericho, a WWE wrestler. I give up. Another song that makes me want to hit things. I used to pound on the roof of the car while listening to it as I drove.)

embedded video )

5. "Stand in the Storm" Meat Loaf: OH THANK FUCK A SONG NOT INSPIRED BY WWE. I freaking love Meat Loaf, and though I still love his older stuff more, I adore this song. Great writing inspiration, and also something I listen to when I need to be inspired to just keep pushing through life.

embedded video )

I don't even watch that much wrestling anymore! COME ON, MUSIC PLAYER, WHY YOU GOTTA BE THAT WAY?

Other songs from the Top 25:
"Radioactive" cover by Pentatonix and Lindsey Stirling
"Bad Moon Rising" cover by Voices in Your Head
"Bad Moon Rising" cover by Rosa Chance Well
"Bad Moon Rising" cover by Juliana Hatfield (I really like "Bad Moon Rising" covers, obviously. Also "Carol of the Bells" covers.)
"Ride to California" Paper Tongues (Discovered this from an Iron Man fanvid.)
"Gorgeous Nightmare" Escape the Fate
"Shut Up and Drive" Rihanna
"Monster" Skillet (It was only a year or so ago that I learned this is a Christian hard rock band.)
"Come With Me Now" KONGOS (OKAY YES MORE WWE MUSIC WHAT THE HELL.)

A) It breaks my heart that this show was canceled! I am finally watching the last two episodes (or at least the last two on my dvr -- look, I was in mourning and not ready to admit it was ending), and am currently finishing "Tea and Psychopathy" and omg WHY CANCELED, SHOW? SO AWESOME!

B) Y'ALL ARE ON NOTICE! There's an AMAZING version of "Bad Moon Rising" in this episode and no one ever mentioned it that I saw. And you guys, I want it. I must try to research who sings it, but in case one of you know, can you tell me? And share your glee over this show with me?

C) FUCKING TRAGEDY THAT IT WAS CANCELED.

Two quick things.

First, I suddenly want to write The Mighty Ducks/Glee, probably Portman/Mercedes. Maybe Portman/Fulton/Mercedes or Goldberg/Russ/Mercedes, though with that one I worry about the whole fat people can only have fat people.

Dude, canonically, Portman and Fulton sing and dance. Sure, it's mostly headbanging and to their radio, but STILL.

Second, I can't believe I never realized this before, but OF COURSE I am going to love music mash ups. THEY'RE CROSSOVERS! I am shocked I never put those words together until now.

Hey, Seattle (and Seattle-ish) people, these are things I am thinking about doing this weekend:

+ The Seattle Tattoo Expo, which has live music in addition to the tattoo stuff. Specifically, it has Duff McKagan's Loaded on Sunday at noon.

Friday: Nevermore, Murdock, Point One, MOS Generator, Pleasure Elite, Zero Down, Witchburn
Saturday: Nashville Pussy, Throw Rag, Viva Hate, DragStrip Riot, Thee Sgt. Major III
Sunday: Tiger Army, Vince Mira, Duff McKagan's Loaded, Kane Hodder, James Hunnicutt

My goal is to go look at any ocean art and find someone to eventually do this wave tattoo I want, but mostly just to try to enjoy my penultimate weekend in Seattle.

+ Festival of the River, which ALSO has live music. Specifically, it has Smashmouth, who is awesome live. I haven't seen them since 1998, and can't imagine more fun than FREE LIVE SMASHMOUTH.

That's right, did I mention this was free?

Saturday: Billy Joe & The Dusty 45s, Le Roy Bell & His Only Friends, The Knack, The English Beat, Gin Blossoms, Smashmouth
Sunday: Queens Bluegrass, Blue County, Jessica Andrews, Darryl Worley, Kellie Pickler

I'd like to see one of the powwows, too, but mostly I'm in this for Smashmouth (and, okay, a little bit for the salmon bake). Oh, and they have buffalo burgers, so I definitely want one of those. Yum.

If the tattoo expo doesn't pan out, there's always Friday night instead, for less crowds and more just the music.

+ Duff McKagan's Loaded is at El Corazon Friday night at 9 p.m.

Anyone in for any of these? I'm willing to drive, since I'll be going anyway, and have a decent sized vehicle. Just let me know.

See, [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop? I told you you should have moved to Seattle with me for the summer!

(Yes, I realize the icon is NOT DUFF. Unfortunately, Velvet Revolver isn't playing here, so I can't make it an appropriate icon.)

The (country music -- hey, I didn't choose it) radio station is talking about Aloha!Elvis. Why, I don't know, but I love Elvis, and people discussing Elvis, and maybe they're talking about it because another impersonator is going to do a show around here, which would be awesome.

Oh, they are! OH! It's the show I've already seen, and it was the best Elvis impersonator show ever. I'm going to have to see if I can figure out where it is being held this Saturday and go. If he has the same opening band --

NO WAY! NOW THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT LILO & STITCH! Dude, this radio station loves me. They're talking about how the movie brought Elvis to the attention of the younger generation.

-- I will try to take my parents, because last time the opening band did some fantastic covers of Johnny Cash songs, and my parents should hear it.

I love Elvis. And Johnny Cash. And music. (A week from Saturday I will be at PointFest with one of my sisters. More music! Though probably less Elvis.)

Awhile back I was looking for some songs from the movie. They aren't on the first soundtrack, I learned pretty quick, but J. found them on the additional music soundtrack, so now I have them! Joy! Glee!

The songs in question, though I now have all the soundtracks, are:

Dope "Debonaire"
Saliva "Superstar"
Primer 55 "This Life"

(Though "This Life" wasn't one of the songs for which I was originally searching, I have fallen in love with it. Yes.)

I need to update my iPod before I go to the gym tomorrow. New music means more energy.

So I'm listening to the local classic rock station, as I often do, and then, over lunch, they start a Weird Al marathon. That's all fine and good, I love some of his songs, but -- Weird Al? Classic rock? Really?

I don't believe it.

Another gread idea I wish for you all to see!

[livejournal.com profile] batoutofkansas, a Supernatural fic challenge based around lyrics off of Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell album, is now taking sign-ups.

I just realized if there was a post-apocalyptical fic challenge based on Meat Loaf lyrics I might possibly die of the glee.

(So I'm making my own, private challenge. It's not like I don't overdose on Meat Loaf every day anyway. I recently learned my boss also loves his music, and every other song on yesterday's office playlist was Meat Loaf. Heaven.)

This is mostly for the girl (who is not currently online, but maybe I will remember to tell her the next time I talk to her over the phone): There is a new Vienna Teng album due out at the end of July (information from [livejournal.com profile] setissma). YAY!

Also, though the live choral version of "I Touch Myself" is still my favorite, Jack Off Jill's version is nice, too.

Finally, I miss the girl, I've pulled something in my shoulder so typing hurts, and the writing is going nowhere because of it. I'm off to bed.

Okay, does anyone have KT Tunstall's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree"? Because it is haunting me and I want it. I noticed it awhile back, fell in love with it, and then have realized over the past few days it has been used to advertize Desperate Housewives and then something on WB tonight as I watch Supernatural. I must have it.

There's a song on the mindless mix my sister, [livejournal.com profile] impatienke, made me for Christmas, which it reminds me of, and so I also have a question. Is there a style name for that type of music? (Unfortunately I don't have the name of the other song handy.)
escritoireazul: (Default)
Link from [livejournal.com profile] winterlive, Prince closes out "Whilte My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the Rock & Roll hall of fame with a guitar solo, and, as [livejournal.com profile] winterlive said, it's like a musical orgasm. Just--wow. So much wow.

Also, "While My Ukulele Gently Weeps". I'm a fan of the ukulele, mostly because J. just wouldn't stop playing Hawaiian music for me whenever he got homesick (which was a lot of the time). (I miss Hawaii too.)

Okay, I'm wasting way too much time on this site, but, mostly so I'll remember, reworking of Canon for the guitar. I love classical songs rearranged into more rock tunes. I blame this on the fact I was a classical pianist for so long.

I feel like I should know the name of this song, but I don't and I can't even find it. The lyrics which stand out are "I would die alone, but not for you" and "back to the" something or other I suddenly can't remember. I keep catching it in the auto bay, but I always miss the title and artist. (In part because half the time they don't say the title and artist. Freaky radio station.)

I forgot to put on a belt today, so my trousers keep falling off. This is frustrating. (Well, it's also good, but mostly it is frustrating.) Plus I almost pulled out my nose stud when I washed my face this morning. I'm not having such a hot day when it comes to personal grooming; not bad, obviously, just a little frustrating.

I am jittery, so I planned to go for a walk. Except my brother T. fixed my usb ports the other day, and I've wanted to change the music on my mp3 player since before the Florida trip (which was in September). I decided tonight was a good time to do it, my fingers were sore from practicing (more on this in a minute) so I didn't want to type much, I just wanted to switch out the music and go.

Except it took me so long because the program kept freezing or crashing or turning itself off--it is the least useful program I have ever used, and that's saying a lot. However, I have finally filled it, just in time to know it's too late to go for a walk right now if I plan to get up early and go to the post office, which I do. I think I may walk there instead, because the two packages I have to send are little. Relatively little, at least.

But my mp3 player has new music, yay. And I am listening to Johnny Cash right now, which is also yay. And I had a good practice session earlier, my usual hour, and then Dad and I played around a bit longer, testing out some of the new rhythm patterns I'd just learned.

See, the other day my parents gave me my birthday present (a little early, my birthday isn't until Monday) and it is awesome, so much I don't have words. They gave me an electric bass guitar that's been in the family for years and my mom used to play it before she got so sick, and then they bought me a new Peavey 158 bass amp and strap and picks and books and everything to learn. (Even though I don't actually use the picks.) I've always wanted to learn the bass, I just never did (keyboard instruments, wind instruments [specifically reeds], and some percussion were the ones I did learn), and I'm glad to be doing something I always wanted to do.

Also it is not really my fingers which hurt (though they do feel strange, and I can already tell where the calluses are going to build), it is my left wrist, because after so many years of playing the piano and typing I have very specific ideas of which direction my wrist should face, and on the guitar that is not the way it must go. So it's a struggle to make it comfortable and correct. I'm getting it though, and don't sound terrible for only two days in. I'm not saying I sound great, or I'm ready to go join a band (I doubt I'll ever actually join a band, I just want to play because I love the bass), but I don't sound like utter crap, either. I tend to pick up musical things fairly fast. This is a big change from everything with which I'm familiar, and it's odd to have to go back to the very basics again.

I'm suddenly absolutely shattered. I think I'm going to crawl into bed soon, even though I'd hoped to catch up on livejournal. This weekend is a quiet weekend devoted to writing. We'll see how it goes; every time I say that, too many things pop up.

Happy things about today:

+ [livejournal.com profile] twinkledru wrote the sweetest, cutest little Buffy/Fred story. It is absolutely amazing and wonderful and made me smile and made me giddy and oh. Just adorable.

+ Going to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with J. and Walk the Line with J., Mom, and Dad. Quick thoughts on each: I loved both of them, for many different reasons. I have always loved Johnny Cash, but I love him even more now, and have put all the songs of his I own back into rotation, not just the select few I usually listen to while I write.

+ Leftovers. I absolutely adore Thanksgiving leftovers, even though a lot of it I won't eat (the green beans had onions in them this year, yuck, and I'm not a fan of green beans anyway, but I can't get enough of turkey sandwiches).

+ A sweet text message from [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop.

+ My first four day Thanksgiving weekend. It's been lovely just relaxing these past two days, and I still have two more days to do things on. Amazing.

+ Making fun of the broken/repaired/broken/repaired windshield in Twister. Hot damn but I love cheesy action movies.

+ "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" followed by "Redemption Song" followed by "Folsom Prison Blues" followed by "Ring of Fire (live)". All it needs is "Hurt" and it will be the top five list of my favorite Johnny Cash songs. (And good lord people, yes, I know a couple of those are covers. Especially "Hurt". I prefer the Johnny Cash version to the NIN version, and I'm a NIN fan, too. Back off.)

+ Diet Dr. Pepper, because any day with diet Dr. Pepper is a good, good day.

+ Hot, sweet, milky Tetley tea with toast after I got home from the cinema because [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop got me hooked. My stash is running low (well, it has been over a month since I got back from Florida), but as long as it lasts, it will be wonderful.

+ People recommending Strangers In Paradise which I started to read back when I worked at the bookstore, but then I quit and had to stop and forgot the name but now I remember and I can buy it and read more.

+ That 70s Show. I have watched so many episodes over the past three days I can't hardly stand it. So good. So funny. So much love.

+ My flists, on both the journals. (One is fandom [this one, as I'm sure you know], the other is more personal. If you're interested in the other, just let me know and I'll add you on it, too.) You guys are fabulous and amaze me every day and create things I wish I could create and are so much smarter than I am. I love that fact.

+ The Old Friends With Indiscretions masterlist is up, and though I haven't read any yet, I am looking forward to Willow/Xander stories.

+ [livejournal.com profile] kormantic posted this entry about true romance, scenes from life, and made me think about my favorite (bitter)sweet memories of romance-which-could-have-been-but-wasn't. I think you should all post yours as well, either here in my comments or over in hers. I've included mine below, and I may post more later, because now I'm all thoughtful.

The two memories I shared )

I was supposed to go shopping today as the first time I've been a consumer and not an employee on Black Friday--but I hate shopping and crowds and the consumerism of Black Friday, so I did not go. In fact, the only thing I purchased all day was movie tickets, and I made J. actually go inside and get them.

So I will have to wait until next year to fulfill my desire to shop at least once on Black Friday. Maybe not next year either, but someday. I was also going to go shopping tomorrow instead (now today), but I think I'd probably better stay here and write and do laundry and clean. I'm almost done holiday shopping anyway, I just have a handful of presents to buy and the materials for my holiday cards. (Before you start thinking I'm prepared, I still haven't figured out what I need to make the holiday cards, so I'd really better get cracking on that.)
escritoireazul: (oz innocence)
I'm not certain which is crazier, writing 4,000 plus words of fanfic (so far) for a novel which not only hasn't been published yet, it isn't even complete yet (I can do this because a) I'm a mind reader and b) it's au fic anyway) or friending random people I find through the rec-a-friend memes. Well, that second part isn't so crazy, except I never know what to say either in the memes or to introduce myself to new people (really I'm shy, I swear), so that's kind of weird.

Also, for the first time in like, ever, I'm writing romantic comedy. For a book which hasn't been published or even finished. I frighten myself today.

Plus I cannot stop listening to the following songs:

Vienna Teng "Harbor"
Des'Ree "I'm Kissing You"
Bif Naked "Lucky Ones"
Steve Harwell "You'll Never Catch Me"
Cake "Short Skirt, Long Jacket"
Robots In Disguise "Turn It Up"
Collective Soul "Better Now (Cursed Mix)"
Bowling for Soup "Little Red Riding Hood"

That would be the working soundtrack for the rom-com fanfic for the novel which hasn't--well, surely you know how the story goes.

I should be writing original fiction (and I have, about 3000 words on it) or some of the fanfiction things I'm signed up to do for real, working fandoms, not my little fandom of one, but. This was fun and relaxing. I take what I can get, I've needed fluff for days now, I'm ill and my nose is almost rubbed raw.

I think I need dinner and more sleep.
escritoireazul: (vin what have I become)
This is why I don't write at work often.

I left it there. *facepalm* No Oz/Bill/Gambit from me tonight. But I am going to read the other stories, once I finish some original writing. Thank you, anyone who wrote me ficlets. Hee.

I have this terrible, embarrassing love for Aly & AJ, the newest(?) Disney pop stars. I really, really like their CD and absolutely love two original songs, "Rush" and "No One". Their versions of "Walking On Sunshine" and "Do You Believe In Magic" are pretty cute, too.

[livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop is the one who first made me listen to pop music and now I can't stop.

To make up for it, I've been on a Manson and NIN kick for the commute to work. (Though today was the Cursed soundtrack because I am absolutely in love with "Little Red Riding Hood". So. Many. Story. Ideas.)

Erm. Really, going to go write now.
escritoireazul: (oz prom)
La Scala Choir singing "I Touch Myself" is--well, I'd say the best music in the world, but it's not. However, it is absolutely fabulous and it is the best version I've heard of the song. Choral performance of a masturbation song? Brilliant.

I have not slept. I am only a little tired now. Instead I have cleaned, watched a disgusting number of fanvids, read Baby-sitters Club fanfic, and am currently writing my parts of the Homecoming storyline in "Queertet Revisited" which I love.

Over holiday, [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop and I came up with how the story is going to end. We practically crowed, like good Pans, we were so thrilled with our decisions. It's a delicious storyline (well, storylines, really) and we will tie them all up nicely. Go us.

We've also been talking about songs for various characters. This was way more fun in person, in front of the pool (or in the pool), while smoking flavored cigarettes. Damn it, why can't we be on holiday always? Oh right, because then it would be real life.

Much better real life if we lived together all the time. I am so going to go be an illegal alien someday and crash on their couch.
