December Talking Meme Master List

(There are still some days left open in the meme, if you want to suggest a(nother) topic.)

Day 15 suggested by [livejournal.com profile] osprey_archer: femslash in general.

Oh, femslash. I love femslash. I love stories about girls and women, I find women seriously sexy (especially competent, tough, smart women), and two (or more) women falling into love or lust together is the best. The best. Part of why I love femslash so much is that there is still a dearth of female characters getting to be awesome together in the same source material. It's getting better, but it's still not great. (Joss Whedon's take on the Avengers is but one example of this.) So taking the women in the source material and telling their stories together, sexual, romantic, friendly, whatever, is important to me.

I am flailing. I don't know why, but it's such a broad topic, I can't seem to find any words. I love stories about girls and women falling in love and how that fits into their canons. Letty and Mia in Fast and the Furious, the way they each carve out a place in a world made up mostly of men, where women are love interests or sex symbols. Faith from BTVS and basically everyone ever as she eyefucks them as seduction. D.E.B.S. and it's adorable queer girl romance. (Mia as the jewel thief lesbian, A MILLION TIMES YES.) Surf girls in love. Dancers in love. Gymnasts in love.

Just give me all the stories about girls and women, in love, in lust, having adventures, heroes and villains, princesses and knights, thieves and doctors. I just -- tell me all their stories, please. Poly stories. Family stories. Everything. Give it to me.

So [community profile] femslash100 is having a Tarot Card Challenge. I don't want to do drabbles, though (maybe short ficlets instead), and I don't really want to do them all for one couple, so I am opening it up to you. Below the cut is the table of cards. You tell me what girl slash or gen about female characters should go with which card and I will write it.

Up next, my responses to the last meme I did, which includes part of a story I'm writing.

I've been thinking about this for awhile, because so much genderswap coming across my flist in SPN fandom, specifically Winsister. I really don't understand why, though in some ways, it makes more sense to me that it would happen in SPN, where there is a distinct lack of female characters. (Though there are some awesome ones, but that's for another discussion.) Then there was this post looking for femslash perspectives on genderswap.

Now I'm curious. What do you like about genderswap? What don't you like? Do you have an opinion on it?

I'm not being flip, I'm really curious about this. So far, I've just not seen the appeal, but I want to understand it.

Am I writing my Yuletide fic? No, of course not, even though that's how I should be procrastinating.

Instead, I've managed to write a thousand words of the Cullen-Hale foursome. What's happened to me? Really? How did this become the fandom thing I think about most often? How?

(Notice, I don't ask when. It become my favorite fandom of lulz when I was in the middle of [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's Breaking Dawn recap and realized I had to go buy the book because I needed to read the crack. As for fic, well, if Rosalie and Emmett weren't so goddamn hot, this never would have happened. Also, Jasper and his bat. And Alice, full stop.)

I actually have thoughts about Jasper and the bat, but I'll save them for later. I'm closing the laptop now.

Since I can't rewatch the movie right now, I am rereading the series in preparation for writing the dodgy foursome fic. (It is possible that reading this crap again is going to melt my brain, by the way. The things I do to write dodgy foursomes.) It is really, truly horrible - it's even worse after having seen the movie, which was better (though, not good).

I am clinging to the little things.

Bisexuality, people, does exist. It's not either or.

So far today, while cleaning and doing website work, I've watched Cabin Fever (I've seen it before, and this was the edited for tv version so not nearly as fun, but I was struck early on with the need to write threesome fic), a bunch of Halloween episodes of Sabrina the teenage witch, and am now watching Pterodactyl. It's pretty bad, but early on I was tempted to write bisexual girl slash.

I will be doing no writing of the sort, I don't have time, but the want is there, so maybe someday.

The sun is shining, the air is warm(er than it has been), and Dad and J. are on their way with my next vehicle. Soon I will be able to drive again, and do things like make that big grocery run so I can have bread and meat and, oh, toilet paper. Awesome.

Hey, the sign-ups are open at [livejournal.com profile] short_takes for the Abby round. I know Abby doesn't get a lot of love from BSC fandom, but I think she's awesome. Come on, she loves Elvis, of course I think she's fab. You should come write some BSC girl slash with me!

While talking to [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop about how I pretty much only write girl slash these days, I started to wonder what pairings I've written. So, after a quick survey of the fic I've posted in this journal which was written with a pairing in mind, here is the breakdown (though not the numbers on pairings I've written multiple times).

a little love if you please )

Which breaks down into:

girl slash 29
boy slash 3 (not counting the boy slash in the threesomes)
het 17
threesome 3

Also, I really like crossovers.

I am writing fic! I haven't written anything in ages, except for this Myrtle story I started awhile back and haven't finished. I think I might finish the current fic this weekend, even. I'd like to hit the library to read some BSC books, if they have any, since my collection isn't here, but I'm sure I can write without the source material if I must. I've certainly read enough of it over the years.

Anyway, BSC girl slash to come soon. I am thrilled with it so far. It's quiet, and sweet, which is just what I wanted to write.

I have insomnia.

I also have thinky thoughts about The Baby-Sitters Club and why a fandom based on a book series about eight girls (plus two associate members, only one of whom is a male) has so much more boy slash than girl slash. I think this says something about the way fans treat women, but I'm not quite sure yet which words I want to use.

But seriously. Most of the slash fic I see is one of the triplets and Jeff (or Nicky and Jeff). The series is about eight female baby-sitters (nine if you count Shannon, who wasn't the focus of very many stories, but was still a member from early on), and yet the fanfic focuses on the male charges.

I wonder if it has something to do with the age of the people writing fic now? Where they closer to the charges' ages when reading it, and therefore were more interested in them? That might be part of it, but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Why so much boy slash instead of girl slash in that fandom? My inquiring mind wants to know.

I think, despite my work tonight, my spn_50states is going to be late and not posted tomorrow.

On the other hand, I've just watched Blue Crush again, for maybe the five hundredth time, and as always, I am filled with glee at the end. Not where she has that super cheesy perfect wave ending, or where she and the football player kiss, but where she strokes Eden's face and then kisses her! Sure, it's on the cheek (or the temple, depending on the exact angle) but it's still a caress and a kiss. She knows who really loves her.

Yes, this is research for the spn_50states story, I swear. Which continues to be an awesome idea, though the execution is weak, as usual.

Is there anyone who has seen The Breed and would be willing to beta a girl slash story? I figure it will be done sometime this week, maybe even tomorrow, and it's not due until June 30. If you can help, just leave a comment.

If you'd like, I'll write a ficlet to your prompt as a thank you.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] femslash07 author,

I'm really sorry this letter wasn't written sooner; I've been mostly offline for a little while, and didn't even realized I had received my assignment.

I am looking forward to reading whatever you write me; I know I will love it.

Here are some quick notes about my request, nothing major, just little things I like about the pairings.

letter )

So, in short, those are the things I like most about those characters. I know you'll write me something wonderful; thank you in advance, I can't wait to read it.

First, let me just say I, like so many other people, hate the new update page and want the old option back. Livejournal, I hate you so much sometimes. So much.

---

I'm going to go ahead and do a fic round-up for the year, because, with the exception of my Yuletide story, I don't think I'll be finishing and posting anything else before 2007. (And even if I do, I can always do a part two.)

So here we go, this shouldn't take long, it wasn't really a productive year.

January: (2 gen, 1 girl slash)

(1) "behind her silence lies" (Lost, Sun, gen): There is one constant in Sun's life.

(2) "Strange Rebirth" (Firefly/Angel, Cordelia, girl slash): This isn't quite how Cordelia thought death should be.

(3) "a billion chinese people can't be wrong" (Supernatural, Dean and Sam, gen): "What are we--just a couple of guys watching horror films and drinking beer?"

February: (1 gen, 1 het, 3 girl slash)

(4) "on the road with disposable comestibles" (X-Men Movieverse, Hank and Bobby, gen): Twinkies make everything okay again. Except when they don't.

(5) "going, staying" (XMM, Rogue/Bobby and Gambit, het): Rogue knows these things: going out is hard, staying in is hard, and love doesn't always make sense.

(6) and (7) "Popular" (BtVS, Joyce/Faith, girl slash): Joyce doesn't know what to do with Buffy, but she sure understands Faith. and "no sleep tonight" (BtVS, Faith/Willow, girl slash): Faith's a little broken, and a little horny.

(8) "lineage and the Slayer line" (BtVS, Faith/Kendra, girl slash): All that's important is this: it's what you are.

April: (1 gen, 2 girl slash)

(9) "Time Is Running Away (The Dream a Little Dream Remix)" (Harry Potter, Sirius, gen): Sirius dreams in layers, no delineation between past, present, and the future perhaps.

(10) "In the Memory (Life and Death)" (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Tibby/Carmen, girl slash): The third death is when there is no one left to remember.

(11) "afternoon siesta (minus the sleep)" (Fast and the Furious, Letty/Mia, girl slash): When they're alone, things change.

May: (1 het, 1 girl slash)

(12) "pieces of me (ten again)" (BtVS, Willow/Oz, Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Riley, Willow/Angel, Willow/Spike, Willow/Angel/Spike, het): Willow doesn't see anything wrong with dating a beast.

(13) "What She Doesn't Have" (BtVS, Faith/Buffy, girl slash): Faith has never had a lot, but now she has even less.

July: (1 het)

(14) "Monster In the Woman" (Harry Potter, Viktor/Hermione, het): Viktor is always searching for something, even at the end of the world.

August: (1 girl slash)

(15) "Don't Look Back (Ride the Wind)" (Ultimate X-Men, Storm/Rogue, girl slash): Sometimes Rogue can fly.

September: (1 het, 1 boy slash, 2 girl slash)

(16) "Four Things Adam Banks Didn't Do At His Reunion (the will he won't he remix)" (Mighty Ducks, Adam, het): Adam Banks is a nice boy. He would never do such things.

(17) "Laundry Day (Extended Version)" (Fast and the Furious, Mia/Letty, girl slash): Every three days or so, Mia has to do laundry.

(18) "Iteration" (XMM, Pyro/Gambit, boy slash): John lost a lot at Alcatraz, and gained a little bit in the aftermath.

(19) "Found Love" (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Lena/Tibby, girl slash): Love sought is good, but given unsought is better.

---

So with my Yuletide story, I'll have written twenty fanfics this year. That's not as good as I wanted, but it's not bad, considering. Not to mention I've focused a lot on professional writing this year.

Plus Sarah and I updated "Queertet Revisited" (Mighty Ducks, multiple, girl slash, boy slash, het.)

---

Now for the analysis.

First thought: Have I gone full circle? When did BtVS become my main fandom again?

girl slash: 10 (11 if you count "Queertet Revisited")
boy slash: 1 (2 if you count QR)
het: 4 (5 if you count QR)
gen: 4

So pretty much I've written one girl slash story for one of any other type of story. I like that, a lot.

Characters:

Sun (Lost): 1 (gen)
Cordelia (BtVS/Angel): 1 (Cordelia/Saffron)
Dean (Supernatural): 1 (Dean & Sam)
Sam (Supernatural): 1 (Sam & Dean)
Hank (X-Men movieverse): 1 (Hank & Bobby)
Bobby (XMM): 2 (Bobby/Rogue, Bobby<--John, Bobby & Hank)
Rogue (XMM): 1 (Rogue/Bobby, Rogue/Gambit)
Rogue (Ultimate X-Men): 1 (Rogue/Storm)
Gambit (XMM): 2 (Gambit/Rogue, Gambit/Pyro)
Joyce (BtVS): 1 (Joyce/Faith)
Faith (BtVS): 4 (Faith/Joyce, Faith/Willow, Faith/Kendra, Faith/Buffy)
Willow (BtVS): 2 (Willow/Faith, Willow/Oz, Willow/Angel, Willow/Spike, Willow/Angel/Spike)
Kendra (BtVS): 1 (Kendra/Faith)
Sirius (Harry Potter): 1 (Sirius/Remus)
Tibby (Sisterhood): 2 (Tibby/Carmen, Tibby/Lena)
Carmen (Sisterhood): 1 (Carmen/Tibby)
Letty (Fast and the Furious): 2 (Letty/Mia)
Mia (Fast and the Furious): 2 (Mia/Letty)
Buffy (BtVS): 1 (Buffy/Faith)
Viktor (Harry Potter): 1 (Viktor/Hermione)
Storm (Ultimate X-Men): 1 (Storm/Rogue)
Adam (Mighty Ducks): 1 (Adam/Julie)
Pyro (XMM): 1 (Pyro/Gambit, John-->Bobby)
Lena (Sisterhood): 1 (Lena/Tibby)

girls: 15
boys: 9

It's no surprise that Faith is the one I wrote most. From writing, I've also fallen in love with Gambit in the movieverse, Gambit/Pyro, and Tibby/Lena. Mia/Letty may just be my one true pairing, except I still love to see them with other people, too.

New Fandoms:

Lost (1)
Supernatural (1)
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2)
Firefly (1)

People, I have the glee today. Which is good, because I also have the cramps and the headache and the general pain and frustration I feel the first day or so every time I have my period. Mostly, though, I have the glee.

Why do I glee?

Because [livejournal.com profile] pene wrote me the most amazing, fantastic, warm, sweet, and just all around perfect fic for the [livejournal.com profile] femslash_today Sadie Hawkins ficathon.

"Something That You're Missing" combines two of my requests, Carmen/Tibby and Carmen/Missy. (What can I say, I love Carmen. This should surprise absolutely no one. I also love Missy. I also love Tibby, but only because she reminds me of Sarah.)

It's a wonderful story with beautiful details, great characterization, believable (and sexy) teen girl experimentation, the warm friendship I so love in the books, a spot-on Missy, a hilarious Torrance mention, and just--I don't even have enough words to say how much I love this.

The fact that this story was written for me is just icing on the cake, where cake means I had the pleasure to read a story which makes me smile and laugh and be filled with glee every time I read it, and I've reread it often. Now you should go read it and tell [livejournal.com profile] pene how much you love it, because I know you will.

I still don't write very much these days.

The Mighty Ducks

Chapter Nine: The Great Plan of "Queertet Revisited", cowritten with [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop.

Summary: High school is hard. It's even more hard when you're not quite right. (Girl slash, boy slash, and het.)

Four Things Adam Banks Didn't Do At His High School Reunion (the will he won't he remix)"

Summary: Adam Banks is a nice boy. He would never do such things. (Het.)

The Fast and the Furious

"Laundry Day (Extended Version)"

Summary: Every three days or so, Mia has to do laundry. (Girl slash, Letty/Mia.)

X-Men movieverse

"Iteration"

Summary: John lost a lot at Alcatraz, and gained a little bit in the aftermath. (Boy slash, Pyro/Gambit)

---

Only two girl slash stories out of the bunch. That's so strange, considering most of the stories I currently have in progress are girl slash. Of course, the Adam Banks story was actually written last year and never posted, and "Queertet Revisited" is still in progress, so out of the actual completed fics over the two months, half girl slash and half boy slash isn't so bad.

---

Speaking of girl slash, I had this great image of two characters together, one with dark hair and one with light, they were hiding in the corner of a room with brick walls, and I can't remember who they were. It was just a flash image, which is strange, I don't normally get them, and it's lingered so long I wish I knew more so I could write it and get it out of my head.

---

It is finally October. Yay. Halloween. Horror. My favorite month of the year.
