Am I writing my Yuletide fic? No, of course not, even though that's how I should be procrastinating.

Instead, I've managed to write a thousand words of the Cullen-Hale foursome. What's happened to me? Really? How did this become the fandom thing I think about most often? How?

(Notice, I don't ask when. It become my favorite fandom of lulz when I was in the middle of [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's Breaking Dawn recap and realized I had to go buy the book because I needed to read the crack. As for fic, well, if Rosalie and Emmett weren't so goddamn hot, this never would have happened. Also, Jasper and his bat. And Alice, full stop.)

I actually have thoughts about Jasper and the bat, but I'll save them for later. I'm closing the laptop now.

Basically, I've seen and heard numerous people talk about how they didn't find him attractive at all (and, sometimes, like me, downright unattractive), until that scene. I started thinking about why that scene in particular is so hot. Part of it is that, for me at least, I find people spinning things hot. (Once a marching band geek, always a marching band geek.)

But it's more than that, too. I think it's either an incredibly well done and subtle bit of acting, or a happy accident, depending on how competent the actor is.

One of there reasons I find Jasper so physically unattractive throughout the movie (besides his crazy ass hair, but all the guys but Emmett have crazy ass hair) is that he always has that look about him, that discomfort, that look of pain, constipation, whatever.

In the baseball scene (and, pretty much from there on out), he doesn't. For the first time, he becomes attractive.

Why?

He's finally comfortable and confident.

The look of pain makes sense, because he has a hard time not eating people, so for him to be around humans so frequently, no wonder he looks like he's in pain.

The baseball scene is the first time he's really in his own comfort zone. Even when Bella comes to the house for the first time, there's so much tension and potential for him to hurt her, he still looks pained.

In the meadow, after he's not hurt while being around her, when he's getting ready to play a fun game with his family, he's in his own happy place. He can relax, he's not worried about slipping, and the pained look falls away.

Suddenly he is cocky and confident and in control. He knows every second where the bat will be, how to hit it so it flips just right, and he is in complete control.

That kind of attitude, that competence and confidence and control, that's incredibly hot.

He's having fun, and he's happy. Analyzing it like that, I can see how Bella is a part of their family at that point. Even Jasper is relaxed.

No wonder Alice loves him so. He's kind of awesome once he's not fighting to keep from eating people.

LOL!

I had this exact conversation with my coworker today. Why? Because I couldn't stop thinking of your icon. We saw the movie together so I brought up that scene and she said, almost word for word, the same things you said about him suddenly looking at ease.

*grins*

Then she said, "I'm probably over analyzing."

It's too bad she's not into fandom. I'd point her here. :)

Hehehehe.

I watched the movie tonight. And I barely noticed Jasper until the baseball scene - now I just think he's hot.

I've got to watch it again, just for that.
