Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you for writing a story for me! Yuletide is my favorite fannish time of year. Before I get into any extra details, I want to say that I am excited about your story, no matter on which fandom(s) we match. I love writing stories for people for Yuletide, it brings me so much joy, and I hope you have a lot of fun and a wonderful experience writing for me. (And that Yuletide stress, which seems almost inevitable sometimes, is as minimal as possible.) I can't wait to read your story!

You can find me on DW, LJ, AO3, Tumblr, and Twitter as escritoireazul, though none of these accounts are very active lately.

I am always down for adding werewolves to a fandom. Always.

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you for writing a story for me! Yuletide is my favorite fannish time of year, and though I have been mostly away from fandom because 2012 has been filled with some really horrible events, I am looking forward to Yuletide more than ever.

Specific Requests

My requests are in no specific order. I love each of them, and would be absolutely delighted to receive a story in any of them. I request Never Cry Werewolf almost every year, but that is because I am certain one day I will run into another fan of the movie. I will be just as happy receiving fic in one of the other fandoms.

I just want to say again that I will love your story. Like I said, this is my favorite time of year and Yuletide is a huge part of that. No pressure! I always love the stories I receive and I really, really want you to have fun with it. Promise. Write a story that you enjoy, and I will be happy.

Roswell, too big for Yuletide, right? Because I suddenly want all the fic about the Roswell poly family and the Dupes and, well, yes, everything. (Got any recs?)

Also, Roseanne werewolf fic, y/y?

(I'm in the middle of moving, but fannish joy is returning.)

ETA Some of my fannish joy returned by this delightful Kaylee and Inara Firefly vid by [personal profile] purplefringe. It is delightful.

---

I am having weird feelings about Yuletide this year. I hope I find the joy in it again soon, because it is normally my favorite fannish time of the year, and I don't want to lose it. But I did make my nominations today, and I hope everyone who wants to nominate fandoms has the opportunity to do so despite the wicked short nomination period. (If I see one more person say, if they really cared about Yuletide, they'd be fine with a short nomination period because they'd be frantically checking back every day until nominations open, I may have to start stabbing people. There is more than one way to be a fan, goddamnit.)

But anyway, I nominated Jurassic Park (Kelly Curtis Malcom, Sarah Harding, Lex Murphy, Nick Van Owen), Roseanne (Roseanne, Dan, Becky, and Darlene Conner) (approved), and Lilo & Stitch (Nani and Lilo Pelekai, David Kawena, Myrtle Edmonds) (all approved so far but Myrtle). I've given up on Never Cry Werewolf for the moment; I can only find my fic online and then one other author, who writes Loren/Jared, and so I just do not think it is likely that I will find anyone interested. I'll try again next year, maybe.

Also, I am still taking drabble requests for December Drabbles, so if you want one, leave a comment here. (If you already requested one at the last post, you don't have to repeat it here, but you can absolutely request more.)

I'll just be over here, trying to get my fannish joy back. I blame Glee, to be honest. Ever since season 3 began, I lost all my fannish joy, even though I preemptively broke up with it. Well that and there has already been a lot of drama around Yuletide. Do not want.

For all the crap that gets said about Roseanne's final season (much of it deserved), the season finale is absolutely heart breaking. Writing your way out of depression, changing things you think are wrong about the world, purging your pain. Sure, you can look at it as them jerking the audience around (a la, IT WAS A DREAM?!) but I don't. Or, if I do, I think it's worth it for the last half of the final episode.

The series itself was incredible. I've been rewatching it awhile now, thanks to dvr, and I can't believe how many things it tackled with such grace and charm. The last season, yes, very odd, but that final episode - heart breaking.

Especially the theme song, sung a cappela (I think by Phoebe Snow).

If what doesn't kill us is making us stronger
we're gonna last longer
than the greatest wall in China
or that rabbit with the drum.

If there's one thing that I've learned
while waiting for my turn
it's that in each life some rain falls
but you also get some sun.

We'll make out better than okay,
hear what I say,
yeah, any day.

I wish I had that version. I'd put it on my iPod to help get me through.

I started this yesterday and then Dad and J. showed up with my new vehicle (which is AWESOME) and I never finished. So here, have a half completed meme.

Top Five Scary Television Show Episodes

I'm going to tweak it a little and talk about some of my favorite Halloween episodes.

1. The Simpsons

I'm a big fan of the Treehouse of Horror series in general, but my absolute favorite is "Treehouse of Horror X" because it has "I Know What You Diddily-Iddily-Did" which, of course, has a werewolf. I really like werewolves, as I'm sure you know. My second favorite is "Treehouse of Horror IV" because it has "Bart Simpson's Dracula" which, obviously, has a vampire, plus the fun shot of Bart hovering outside Lisa's window in a shout-out to The Lost Boys. And I think the two episodes technically follow each other, with the car ride in IKWYDID following the events of BSD.

2. Roseanne

I love all of them, but probably my favorite is "Boo" because it starts the trend of a Halloween episode for the show, and I love the prank war between Roseanne and Dan. As I was trying to decide which was my favorite, I realized how much I miss the show and how many awesome things it dealt with, especially GBLT issues. They had lesbians, they had gay men, they had a woman who was more bisexual than lesbian, they had people coming out and the issues their friends and family faced, they had gay marriage, they had a lesbian falling for a straight woman - and it was all just part of the story, part of the characters, not something After School Special. It really did some things very, very right, at a time when not many other shows were doing these things. I miss it.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Though my favorite seasons are 1 - 3, my favorite Halloween episode is probably "Fear, Itself" for a variety of reasons. 1) I love that Oz still has issues with the wolf, even though he seems so calm about it at earlier points. I like that glimpse behind his stoicism. 2) Oz pulling a knife to trim the wires? HOT. I like guitarists and hot people with knives, and so to combine them is a BIG THING. 3) I really love that it was Oz's blood that powered the magical symbol. 4) GOD OZ IS GOD. 5) I love parties with haunted houses and Little Red Riding Hood Costumes.

You can tell I like Oz, huh?

I have this love of the show Roseanne. I grew up watching it, and still love it to this day, though there are some episodes which hit way too close to home. (We used to say one of my sisters was just like Roseanne.) (Friday Night Lights has similar moments, which makes me wonder if part of why I love things is because they hurt so good.) I was a little in love with Darlene.

Tonight I watched the episodes where they go to Disney World, and it hurts so good in a much different way than normal. I had never done Disney until 2005, when I met [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop for the first time in person in Florida. We had such a good time during those two weeks, and just the words Orlando or Disney World or Florida make me happy and sad at the same time.

I'd like to go back, someday. Hit more of the theme parks, see more of Florida. Go back to that awesome movie theater with the stars and planets decorations, where we saw Cry_Wolf and Serenity. Spend hours doing flips in a pool.
