Things I'll Talk About Masterlist

Still some open topics, if you want to claim them.

1: Talk about the first time you watched your favorite movie. [livejournal.com profile] das_hydra and [livejournal.com profile] catalinay asked for this one.

Lilo & Stitch is my favorite movie, and has been since it released, but Lost Boys was my favorite movie before that, and the two run pretty neck and neck, so I'll talk about both.

Lost Boys

I actually came to Lost Boys later than most people I know in its fandom; I didn't watch it until the summer after my senior year of high school, when most people I know watched it as kids or in their early teens. It was already considered a cult classic when I first watched it, and I immediately fell in love.

I worked long hours that summer, at a drive-in restaurant, and I watched it late one night after getting home from work. It must have been an edited for tv version, because I didn't own it back then, but I can't actually remember what was (or might have been, I guess) edited. I bought my own copy pretty much immediately so I could rewatch, and started writing fic for it not long after finding the mailing list.

I love the flashy vampires on motorcycles, way too cool for life, forever young and full of teenage hormones and doing ridiculous things just because they can. I love a chosen family, and how it exists on both sides in the movie, and how sibling bonds can be so strong. I love the soundtrack and the 80s fashions and Santa Cruz as the Murder Capital of the World.

I love this movie, and these characters, and how the fandom gives them so much life.

Lilo & Stitch

Oh, hello, movie of my heart.

I have a hard time remembering the first time I watched this, because I watched it a billion times my undergrad senior year. I know I saw it in the theater, probably with J (he'd just moved back to Missouri from Hawaii, in part because of me), and I know it broke my heart right open. Siblings and chosen families and Lilo is such a strange, wonderful kid, and Nani is trying so damn hard, and Stitch. I have an epic Stitch collection, because Stitch is the greatest.

Dear Femslash12 Author,

First, I want to stress that I am excited to read whatever story you write. I love girl slash and women being awesome and these fandoms, and I can't wait to read your story.

In general, I really love stories about women being awesome. I also like werewolves, stories about families being loving and protective and a little snarly with each other because they trust each other to always be there, and smart flirtations. I like stories of all ratings, I'm a fan of consensual kink, and I love stories about oral sex and pegging and women who really love sex. I love poly stories, threesomes and foursomes and moresomes, as long as it is consensual and not cheating. I adore intricate plots and mysteries to solve and friends teaming up to save the world. I like straightforward prose, lyrical pieces, and experimental work. I love adoption stories when adoption is treated as something totally normal and not a BIG DRAMATIC SECRET to up the tension. I love siblings as friends and families who are super tight and friends as family and created families. I love the ocean, full moons, surfing, autumn, Halloween, horror movies, and long roadtrips.

I love motorcycles and mechanics and beaches and surfing and Hawaii and Washington state and woods and camping and full moons. My favorite time of year is October 1 through February 1 because it encompasses all sorts of things I love, from the month long festival that is Halloween movie marathons and Halloween episodes of tv shows to spending time with loved ones and openly talking about what makes us thankful at Thanksgiving (though Thanksgiving itself, highly problematic) to the December holidays with all their lights to birthdays to New Year's Eve. Good times, even though I hate winter and the cold and snow.

I love bisexual characters (particularly women) treated with respect, happy and healthy polyamory, characters of color treated with respect, people having adventures, and apocalypses.

I adore crossovers, the more twisty and complicated the better.

I dislike embarrassment/humiliation, rape, non-con, misogyny, racism, ableism, sizeism, character-bashing, and women feeling guilty about enjoying sex. I am particularly frustrated right now by depictions of mental illness and crazy = bad and dangerous. I dislike misogyny and Man Angst, especially White Man Angst.

As for my specific requests:

Marvel Avengers Movieverse: Darcy/Jane, Darcy/Sif, Darcy/Pepper, Darcy/Jane/Sif, Darcy/everyone, all the ladies/all the ladies

Avengers poly family is one of my favorite things right now, and Darcy's snark and good humor, Jane's science brain, Pepper's competence, and Sif's perserverence in the face of a society that doesn't view women as warriors make me so, so happy.

Disney: Nani/anyone

Nani Pelekai is amazing. Lilo & Stitch is my favorite Disney movie, and Nani my favorite character, as she struggles to take care of her sister and hold her family together and then, oh yeah, aliens.

Buffy: Veruca/Faith, Veruca/Nina, Veruca/Willow

Werewolf. Women who are werewolves are often presented as a sexual threat, and Veruca is no different. I love stories that take her and show us more.

Never Cry Werewolf: Loren/anyone

Never Cry Werewolf is the fandom I keep requesting because someday someone else will love it like I do and want to write it. Basically, a new neighbor moves in, deaths start in the neighborhood, and Loren proves what a badass she is by trying to save the world. I want to see more of her being awesome.

Ugly Betty: Betty/Amanda, Betty/Alexis

I haven't finished the last season of Ugly Betty, but am particularly fond of the time when Betty and Amanda lived together, and particularly right after Amanda got the second job and comes home to find Betty has cooked her dinner. Their dynamics, their friendship, the way Betty was both taking care of her and teaching her to take care of herself -- I love them and want to see more of them.

I also think there was quite a bit of potential to Betty and Alexis, though they didn't spend nearly enough time interacting. I would love to see more of them together, too.

Roswell: Maria/Isabel, Maria/Isabel/Liz

I only started watching Roswell a couple years ago, about a decade too late, but good grief, Roswell poly fandom was basically canon by the end. Maria and Isabel are my favorites, but I love all of them bunches and bunches. In all the fandoms, but in this one in particular, I would hate to see the guys bashed or written off, because they are so integral to this family that was created, alien and human, and I love it.

(I've just realized that a Lilo & Stitch/Roswell crossover could be amazing.)

Thank you, author, for writing me a story. You are awesome!

ETA Some of my fannish joy returned by this delightful Kaylee and Inara Firefly vid by [personal profile] purplefringe. It is delightful.

---

I am having weird feelings about Yuletide this year. I hope I find the joy in it again soon, because it is normally my favorite fannish time of the year, and I don't want to lose it. But I did make my nominations today, and I hope everyone who wants to nominate fandoms has the opportunity to do so despite the wicked short nomination period. (If I see one more person say, if they really cared about Yuletide, they'd be fine with a short nomination period because they'd be frantically checking back every day until nominations open, I may have to start stabbing people. There is more than one way to be a fan, goddamnit.)

But anyway, I nominated Jurassic Park (Kelly Curtis Malcom, Sarah Harding, Lex Murphy, Nick Van Owen), Roseanne (Roseanne, Dan, Becky, and Darlene Conner) (approved), and Lilo & Stitch (Nani and Lilo Pelekai, David Kawena, Myrtle Edmonds) (all approved so far but Myrtle). I've given up on Never Cry Werewolf for the moment; I can only find my fic online and then one other author, who writes Loren/Jared, and so I just do not think it is likely that I will find anyone interested. I'll try again next year, maybe.

Also, I am still taking drabble requests for December Drabbles, so if you want one, leave a comment here. (If you already requested one at the last post, you don't have to repeat it here, but you can absolutely request more.)

I'll just be over here, trying to get my fannish joy back. I blame Glee, to be honest. Ever since season 3 began, I lost all my fannish joy, even though I preemptively broke up with it. Well that and there has already been a lot of drama around Yuletide. Do not want.

To cheer myself up, I am currently watching two episodes of Hannah Montana. Originally it was to kill time before Princess Protection Program came on (yes, I'm giving in and watching it because I've been told so many times I should) but I'm actually enjoying HM. I think mostly it's Miley Cyrus's voice, which used to annoy me but I now find scratchy and awesome (a la Rachael Ray) and also it's just fun.

---

I got my I Will Remember You posting date and now I have to come up with a good Buffy/Angel story. I have some ideas, but I'm not sure I can pull them off. We'll see.

Now that I've written my subject line, I kind of want to write a Buffy/Angel story in the middle of another crossover with Lilo & Stitch. Hee.
escritoireazul: (blue crush family)
Ever wondered why Blue Crush doesn't tell the story of a surfer of color? Especially since the white girl's two sidekicks are played by women of color? And it's set in Hawaii?

I have this same thought about Lilo & Stitch, Myrtle and her little followers.

There are stories there. I just don't know them yet.

Also, Sanoe is like four to five inches taller than the others and yet I never noticed that much of a difference. Huh.

A friend linked to a blog with art of Disney male characters in their underwear. (I only don't mention that friend's name because it was in a flocked post.) I recognized the style as that of David Kawena, but since his deviantart is locked, I'll post the link to the blog, too. los heroes Disney en ropa interior. (Spanish language blog.)

My favorite is David, from Lilo & Stitch, who was kind of completely gorgeous. Considering the thing I already had for Nani, this bodes well for more fic from me. Animated characters, you say? Whatever. (Also, David's underwear has a belt. I find this hilarious and intriguing all at once. And he has leather wrist cuffs. And a nipple ring. Oh, David. This, coupled with my reaction to seeing Dean have sex during Supernatural, has convinced me I might want to go oggle some hot people in person soon.)

(In an odd twist of following links on deviantart, I went from one gallery to another until suddenly I realized I recognized a woman in a picture - it was my brother's girlfriend who does stock photography and often runs contests letting other people use her stock images in their art inspired by her theme. Small world. I was all, Z, is that you? And yes, I talk aloud like that. I live alone. Class is over for the semester. I might be the only voice I hear for awhile as I prepare for finals.)
