Loved this look at Gaila.

Good fashion sense is gender-neutral. So is friendship.

I love the original a lot, and this is an excellent complement to it.
escritoireazul: (Glee badass foursome)
"Coffee Break" (Blaine, Brittany, and Kurt), "basic pinning" (Lauren/Puck), and "no one's got what we've got going" (Tina/Mike, Rachel, ensemble) by [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice. Three really awesome comment fics. Particularly awesome is the last one, which deals with Tina, Mike, and the Celibacy Club. ("basic pinning" is pretty freaking hot, too.)

Santana and Blaine rate boys by [livejournal.com profile] threepwillow.

Hilarious and kinda hot.

Shannon, Holly, and April end up on a night out by [livejournal.com profile] eyesaremslove.

I want to see so much more of this, because it is so fun.

"Made of Steam" by [livejournal.com profile] staringiscaring.
Summary: Kendra in a steampunk alternative universe where she fights vampires and rides around with Mr. Zabuto in a zeppelin.

Freaking AWESOME. I love Kendra being competent and kickass and I would love to see more of her.

"Sea of No Cares" by [personal profile] poisontaster
Summary: On a world without stars, he took to the sea.

Gorgeous Wash backstory.

Art: New Directions girls and Kurt in lingerie.
escritoireazul: (Default)
So I thought about not reccing any fics for the fandom which includes my story, so no one could compare my recs to all the stories and then figure out which one was mine. And then I thought about commenting and reccing my own story if it came down to it, to throw people off. Then I decided maybe I was overthinking this guessing game, but it was a lot of fun. So really, I could have done either of those or both or neither.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Dwell in the House of the Lord (The Day You Always Remember Remix) is a chilling, haunting story of stories and the monsters hiding in the world, two men sharing the story of Captain Sparrow and the stories he told.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Un/Expected (Straight Girl Remix) is a fantastic Kennedy voice, mixing all the good and bad of her in the source material in a way that is starkly, honestly, hilariously real.

Harry Potter

The Chords We Play is an incredible remix. I tend to live it up to readers whether they read the original story with the remix, but I highly, highly recommend reading both of these stories together, because this twists the original inside out and even as Peter -- who is sharp and cruel and manipulative and still oddly sympathetic here -- manipulates the characters, the remix author manipulates the story so well.

The Wolf Covers Its Tracks (All Us Human Extras Remix) is an amazing look at Fenrir Greyback through the eyes of original characters as Harry Potter hunts him through Banff, Alberta. The children here are amazing, sharp and afraid and strong and weak and just wonderful, and in particular I love Stephanie Wu, whose point of view sections frame the story as a whole and who has a nice, lovely, quiet queer flirtation in the middle of all the blood and destruction.

Inter-House Relations (The Care of Magical Creatures Remix) has an amazing Charlie, sharp and intelligent and funny and besotted with his dragons, which is reason enough to read it. That it is also funny and fun and sweet are more. And though I do not like Draco Malfoy, I'm glad I have this one a chance, because the story is from his POV and still it is wonderful, enjoyable and entertaining and for the length of it, at least, Draco was really well done, caught in his family but fighting the bit.

X-Men Comicverse, X-Men 616, Figure Skating RPF

Fame Monsters (The Twitter Remix) is hilarious. Just absolutely, flat-out hilarious and perfectly in character and has an amazing Jubilee and Johnny Weir and Northstar and the power of the press and social media and it just feels like all the awesome bits of technology coming together, you know, fandom and tech and people and the amazing ways we can interconnect. And also, did I mention hilarious?

Firefly

River Lays an Egg (Upside Down Remix) has a fantastic River and some great River and Mal interaction. I love River's voice here in particular, slightly mad but slightly sane too and completely charming.

Something from Nothing (The Gratitude Sings in Me Chorale) is a lovely River piece, set just after Ariel, about paying debts and saying thank you and created family-in-crew. River's voice is really nicely done here, too.

Friday Night Lights

We're Glad for what We've Done, Done with what We've Lost: The Sing Me Anything Remix is an amazing Tyra piece, about the people left behind in Dillon and the way she's so stuck in her life, working so hard for something she's not even sure she wants and absolutely sure won't help her, and how sometimes it takes motivating someone else to get her to step up and do what needs to be done. Tyra's voice is incredible, so painful and harsh and developed and I love her interactions with Matt Saracen in particular.

Supernatural

Above Us Only Sky (The Golden Age Remix) is a breathtaking, beautiful story about Anna as an angel that left me wordless and filled with a quiet, humming joy and sadness together. It's absolutely lovely.

Dude, I don't know how I got so lucky, but I got two absolutely amazing stories for Remix Redux.

Firefly

Until the Light was Gone (The Frozen Earth Remix) remix of my "Canaries in the Mines"

This is an incredible, haunting, lyrical story which stole my breath and made me lose all my words. There are thoughts about space and the emptiness of the sky and just amazing, amazing descriptions and language.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I Would Keep Myself (Mirror Mirror Remix) remix of my "My Empire of Dirt"

This takes the original and turns it all the way around and inside out and just tears it apart. It's fantastic and the Buffy here is so strong and amazing. I love the scenes with the First and the way it haunts her still.

---

I have one story, in a fandom I've written in before. If you can guess which one is mine, you get a treat. If I told you my fandom, you are ineligible.
escritoireazul: (Default)
"What Friends Are For (Flow My Tears Remix)"

Summary: Xander takes steps to make sure he remembers what he needs to.

The original story is heartbreaking and a good read. The remix is absolutely horrifying. I am still chilled by it.

"Plate Tectonics (The Truth From Fiction Remix)"

Summary: Lorna talks to Rachel while she waits to see how her world will end.

This is amazing, and a fantastic twist on the original story. The ending of this one was like a gut punch, a line which encompasses exactly how it feels to have something slightly crazy and uncontrollable beneath your skin. (At least, that's my reading into it, for my own, personal reasons, but it was an incredible story which hit me hard. How do you tell fact from fiction? How do you tell which monsters are real? It's amazing.)

"Protective Urges (The Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon Remix)"

Summary: Mal had always been there to protect his Kaylee, and he always would be.

The end here is particularly effective, again, with a good conversation between characters and a believable, if painful, decision.
escritoireazul: (Default)
I'm reading instead of studying, of course. Dinner soon, though, some time outside in the nice weather and the full moon, and then back to the books.

---

"Every Farthing of the Cost (Dingoes At My Baby Remix)"

Summary: Oz can't help but be reminded of Giles whenever Remus is around, so he takes the withdrawn Remus under his wing.

Oz, Remus, werewolves, magic, and background Remus/Sirius. I love every single thing about this story, especially Oz's voice, and the way he and Remus interact.

"Where the River Meets the Dawn (The Strobe Lights and the Disco Remix)"

Summary: The Slayers are relaxing at the beach, and the Serenity crew are in trouble - or it might be the other way around.

I love Caridad's voice here, and the way the story is different from the original but still captures the excitement and joy of it.

"Eleven Hours at the End of the World (The Memento Mori Remix)"

Summary: A Slayer fights her way through a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of zombies, picking up a traveling companion along the way.

Post-apocalyptic wasteland full of zombies. Need I say more?

"Hold On Loosely (The Southern Rock Remix)"

Summary: "I'll be the best big brother ever, and you'll be the best little brother ever."

This story is so very, very much Dean Winchester I am amazed.

"By Any Other Name (The Fool's Paradise Remix)"

Summary: If ye should lead her in a fool's paradise, as they say, it were a very gross kind of behaviour.

This is a fantastic exploration of what would grow from Mystique once she was no longer Mystique any more.

"Lucky Number Seven (By the Numbers Remix)"

Summary: The seven people Sirius Black has kissed, and the reason he hasn't had sex until the last one.

Remus and Sirius again, and the stories behind Sirius's kisses, and just a wonderful point of view.

"Holy Night" by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool is a terrible, wonderful, painful story about Zoe, almost broken, and Mal, never knowing just the right thing to say. It's short, but so much is packed into each word it is absolutely unbelievable.

"The Likes of Which You Ain't Ever Seen" by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool is a cute, funny story in which Jayne gets arrested and Kaylee and River must ride to the rescue.

"Looking For Normal" by [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight is a sad, beautiful story about Scott Summers and his friendship with Reed Richards (of Fantastic Four fame) in the aftermath of X2.

"Stolen Waters" by [livejournal.com profile] fabu is a painful, wonderful short story about Elizabeth and Will after PotC:Dead Man's Chest, which incorporates that worry about what's to come very well.

"Her Daddy Was" by [livejournal.com profile] moony is a slow story filled with hurting set a long time after Brokeback Mountain and narrated by Alma Del Mar Junior. It's lovely.

What the subject says.

[livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle has a collection of incredibly erotic and wonderful femslash ficlets from a variety of fandoms (BtVS, Ultimate X-Men, Wicked, West Wing, BSC, Anne of Green Gables, and Firefly). (And then she does a commentary on one of them.)

[livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce has an Astonishing X-Men fic about Scott and Jean and Emma and mindplay. I'm not a big fan of Scott and Jean (I love Emma), however I really enjoyed this story.

Nightspore has an in-progress crossover between House and the Agent Pendergast series by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. I'm not a big fan of starting stories which aren't finished, but this one was just impossible to ignore. Do you know how much I love Pendergast and the Preston & Child combo? A lot. This fic also contains the Jersey Devil. And mysterious diseases. Good times.
escritoireazul: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] carlyinrome wrote "She Says" which is a beautiful, painful, touching Firefly story about Inara leaving after "Heart of Gold" and how she and the crew react to each other in the wake of that decision.

[livejournal.com profile] quirkybird posted, in [livejournal.com profile] pantsketch, a fantastic drawing mixing The Simpsons and Battlestar Galactica, Six and Gaius. I love it.
escritoireazul: (willow and oz this love has its toll)
"Weighs Nothing: Five Lies That Connor's Father Told Him" by [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 is a series of linked drabbles which will break your heart.

And now for Remix/Redux IV: I Know What You Did Last Remix stories, all anonymous!

The most important, of course, is the remix written for me.

"The Man I Could Be (The Paved With Good Intentions remix)" is a remix of my Man I Could Be, but this new story is the one I wish I had written. It's beautiful, and painful, and detailed, and absolutely amazing. I'm still in awe of it, and don't know what to say beyond I love it. It's Harry Potter fandom, about Ron and the way he views his family, and I adore it.

"Light In the Darkness (Samsara mix)" is a beautiful Firefly story about Inara and River, and how Inara sees and hears the things no one else is willing to understand.

"Abominable (The Extended [Baby-Sitters] Club remix) is an Angel story crossed over with The Baby-Sitters Club about a young genius woman, Janine, who is tempted by Wolfram & Hart's east coast office, and finds a friend in Fred. It's that, but it's so much more, loneliness and fear and all sorts of things.

More to come later, but I just can't concentrate today.
escritoireazul: (lost boys troublemakers)
"Get There Faster" by Jintian, a nasty, painful Harry/Ron story set after Order of the Phoenix. It's a dark, disturbing, wonderful glimpse into one way Harry might have responded to the end of OotP, and how he thinks he should prepare himself for the future.

"Prophecies and Prejudice: the Aurora Summers Diaries, April 1814-June 1815" by [livejournal.com profile] twinkledru, which is, so far, a crossover which includes: Buffy, Angel, Sharpe, Sorcery and Cecelia, A Great and Terrible Beauty, and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. Of those, I have no experienced with Sharpe, Sorcery and Cecelia, or Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, but I still love this story, and Aurora's voice, and the footnotes (footnote LOVE), and--just go read it. It's a work in progress, but I am willing to wait for more.
Foreword and Chapter One, Chapter Two, Chapter Three, and Chapter Four

"Feeling Lucky" by [livejournal.com profile] karabair, a hot, funny, and wonderful Cordelia/Gunn story set early in season two. I love this, the references to the way Cordelia's life was in high school and how it has changed, and the problems of having sex with a friend and the sex itself was fabulous and imperfect.

Transmutation" by [livejournal.com profile] kurukami, a Pitch Black/Firefly crossover story which works very well in a strange, wonderful way. It's about Riddick and what he gives up to be able to see, but it's about so much more as well.

"Can't Stand the Waiting" by [livejournal.com profile] velvetandlace is a story about Mary Anne, from the Baby-Sitters Club, early in the series, when she was shy and lonely and so afraid of everything. It's Mary Anne, feeling like she hasn't got a friend in the world, and it's beautiful.
escritoireazul: (slash beauty in the music)
Five Lovers Cordelia Chase Could Have Totally Had, If She'd Wanted Them by [livejournal.com profile] starlet2367 is funny and sweet and has lovely pairings, wonderful pairings.

Haunts Me Night and Day: Five Non-Kisses by [livejournal.com profile] kindkit is five different ways Xander and Oz almost kiss, but don't. Five amazing ways, actually, heartbreaking and sweet.

Air by [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl is a Kaylee/Inara story set after Serenity and is beautiful. Sweet and sexy and wonderful, and absolutely unbelievably beautiful. I love the way Inara changes, and the way Kaylee relates to her and everyone else.

It blew her to Anytown, USA and that's my middle name by [livejournal.com profile] pene is the post-series life I want for Buffy and Faith, especially together as they are. Just go read it, I don't have enough good words for this story.

Plus one icon rec to grown on. Beautiful Buffy, Angel, Lost, and X-Men icons, among others by [livejournal.com profile] elektricons.

So, so rushed. How is it almost 8 p.m. already? Still haven't touched the bass or done anything very productive at all (beyond that whole working all day thing).
escritoireazul: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] musesfool wrote Love Is a Fool Star, a five-things story about Mal and the five ways he did not have sex with his crew. I'm fond of a well-written five things story anyway, and Victoria's Mal voice is fantastic, and some of these scenes (most of them, I have to admit) are heartbreaking.

I kind of love heartbreaking, in the way where kind of means more than life and love means adore and can't stop reading. Except in a way that would make sense if actually substituted in the sentence.
escritoireazul: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] _astralis wrote "You Will Know When You Get There", an absolutely breath-taking Mal/Kaylee story which builds slow and bittersweet, and clings to the senses like honey. It's amazing, and any fan of Mal or Kaylee (and especially of Mal/Kaylee) should read it.
escritoireazul: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] twinkledru wrote light that lingers in a quiet room, a post-Serenity Zoe gen fic about how various crew members see her and try to help and mostly fail a lot. It made me sigh and sniffle and love on it a lot.

[livejournal.com profile] lostgirlslair wrote To London We Will Go, a Faith/Dawn story for me! It's fantastic, with spazzy, self-conscious Dawn and Faith being Faith (which is to say hot and sexy and amazing and dirty and layered) and I was so pleased to receive it in the [livejournal.com profile] femslash_santa ficathon.
escritoireazul: (vin failed attempts to fly)
Big Damn Zombies, Sir by Shrift (Firefly). Hilarious, in character, delicious dialogue. Oh, how I loved it. Zombies! Firefly! Perfect combination.

Just Drifting by [livejournal.com profile] twinkledru (Serenity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Great Jayne voice--perfect, spot on Jayne voice--and a Buffy I actually, amazingly, don't hate. Pretty fabulous sex, too.

Comfort by [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel (Serenity). Sweet, touching ficlet, with a very good, very believable Book.

Of course, any Serenity stories contain spoilers.

Why have I not uploaded any Serenity/Firefly icons?
