ETA: This brings me to 85 fandoms! At least for certain ways of counting it.

Did you know I did Yuletide 2020? Because I certainly never shared the fic I wrote. Or any recommendations. Or any life updates since last fall. I'm alive! I'm pretty happy! I'll post an update soonish.

For now, here are the stories I wrote for Yuletide 2020, just in time for Yuletide 2021 to start nominations.

Assignment: And It Burns, The Cave (2005), Charlie/Jack McAllister, Pacific Rim fusion, Summary: Charlie knows, with an inescapable certainty all the way down to her bones, that it is wrong to take the jaegers deep. Caving is about your body and the cave, strength and stone and darkness, and not some goddamn machine.

Treat: Brave Enough, Jurassic Park/Jurassic World, Kelly Malcolm/Lex Murphy, Summary: I DIDN'T EVEN WRITE A SUMMARY, HOLY SHIT WAS I OUT OF IT AT THE END OF LAST YEAR. Have one now: The Jurassic Park Survivors Found Family comes back together to save Claire, Owen, and especially Maisie Lockwood.

Treat: It Rises, Seattle Kraken "A Legend from the Deep Awakens" (Promotional Video), Summary: Mount Rainier burns the day the kraken comes.

(If you have never seen it, Meet the Seattle Kraken is the video, I listened tot he song in it on repeat the entire time I worked on the story, to this day I sometimes listen to it on repeat, it remains one of the best promo videos I've ever seen, and this fic is one of my favorites of my work. The Blues will always be my team, but here's my second time. Finally, fuck I miss Seattle.)

Treat: Smoke and Ashes, Ghost and the Darkness (1996), Colonel John Henry Patterson/Helena Patterson, Summary: The Pattersons are invited to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri in 1904. Or rather, Lt. Colonel John Henry Patterson is invited to participate in the great engineering intellectual debates, and after Tsavo, John does not travel without his wife and young son.

It comes as no surprise when Helena finds them a ghost.

I managed five Yuletide stories this year, my assignment and four treats. Not my most prolific year, but pretty damn good, and I'm proud of the stories I wrote.

Assignment: Out of Bounds and Off the Trail, Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin, Abby/Kristy (and ensemble)
Summary: Abby heads up to Shadow Lake for a long weekend of skiing, snowball fights, and hot chocolate. Add in an unrequited crush, two sets of best friends, and a blizzard, and the only thing Abby can think is this: At least we're not being stalked by a failed killer this time.

Treat: (Not a) Survival Group, Jurassic Park series/Jurassic World series, Lex/Kelly (and ensemble)
Summary: It's not a dinosaur survival group. Not really. It's just that, well, they all survived dinosaurs once. Or twice. Kelly hopes there will never be a third time for any of them.

Treat: No More Crossroads, No More Waiting, Thunderheart, Ray/Walter, soulmate AU
Summary: The movies got the soulmate thing all wrong.

Summary: Beauty's magic fails her sometimes. Snow thinks it's high time she learned to fight. Red's the one given the job. No one is happy about this.

(New fandom! I've wanted to write for this for a few years now, and I was thrilled to find another fan.)

Treat: Say Hello to Your Friends (Again and Again and Again), Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin, Mallory/Jessi (and ensemble)
Summary: When Mary Anne gets married (again), Mallory and Jessi reunite with some old friends. It's not nearly as awkward as Mallory fears.

Yuletide fic has been revealed. I managed to post 5 stories in the main archive; two of them very much felt like my kind of writing and storytelling, and at least one of those two definitely was, because many people guessed I wrote the Confident/Jurassic Park crossover.

Assignment: I was so damn excited when I received my assignment, and I love the fic that eventually resulted, but oh my god, it took so much longer to write than expected. Every single sentence of the first draft was like chewing through leather. Thank god I am a much better rewriter than writer, because subsequent drafts really bashed it into shape.

The moment Jurassic World was announced, my first thought was: what the hell is Lex Murphy doing during all this mess? And then, during the movie, one of the characters said he was fulfilling John Hammond's dying wish, and I said, out loud, in the middle of the theater, "oh, hell no."

So when I saw reeby10's prompts, I knew I wanted to tell a story about Lex Murphy, her view of Jurassic World and her grandfather's legacy, and her technological genius. I love stories about Lex and Kelly Malcolm, from the second movie, so I wanted to include her here, too, another girl who survived dinosaurs grown into a woman. There are nods to Tim Murphy, Dr. Ellie Sattler, Dr. Ian Malcolm, and Dr. Ian Grant, too, but mostly this is a story about Lex, Kelly, and Claire Dearing, and scientifically engineered monsters, and the hubris of men.
