Friending Meme

[personal profile] kouredios is having a friending meme here on Dreamwidth and here on livejournal, and it is awesome. I am finding so many people to add to my reading list. Hi, new people!

Here is what I said:

1. name: escritoireazul (DW, LJ, AO3, Tumblr, Twitter)
2. age(ish): early 30s
3. primary fandoms: I've posted fic in more than 50 fandoms, mostly Yuletide eligible. I am multifannish beyond belief, but mostly I love werewolves and crossovers and awesome women and families of choice. I'm keeping up with OUaT, Grimm, Castle, Bones, and Criminal Minds, will catch up on Sons of Anarchy over Christmas, and just finished a rewatch of season two of Fringe and am on to a rewatch of season three. (Partial rewatch, I had to stop watching partway through because of life issues.)
4. other stuff you're into, but maybe don't blog about (unless you find more people who'd want to hear about it): My motorcycle, my dad and my amazing siblings (my mom died recently, so I don't know how much I'll be talking about her any time soon), long-distance bffs (all my bffs are long distance now, alas, some longer than others), queer books, ya books, my mental illnesses (bipolar and ocd), and adoption. I rarely talk about my jobs, because I have a non-fannish journal for that. (Which I will tell you about if you ask, but I try not to link them too publicly.)
5. non-fannish interests?: See above.
6. my journal reads like...: Joy and babbling and anger. And werewolves.

This reminds me I should do a new about me post soon.

Fic Rec

conversations about government interference (1088 words) by faviconsandyk
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Thor (Movies), Marvel Avengers Movies Universe
Rating: Not Rated
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jane Foster/Darcy Lewis
Characters: Jane Foster, Darcy Lewis, Natasha Romanov
Summary:

Jane leaned close. "I'm really excited about seeing you naked," she said.

Written for me for Femslash 2012, and I love Jane and Darcy, and the way they use their words, and the delightful give and take between them.

TV on DVD

We've had a lot of family stuff going on since I moved, and so I've been out of town more often than not (and mostly at work when I am in town). Therefore, I haven't had the chance to get my internet set up yet, and have had a lot of time to watch things while unpacking and/or having insomnia, so much insomnia.

I started with a rewatch of Gilmore Girls (which, let me tell you, BEST IDEA right after Mom died) (and wow, yeah, those last couple seasons, what even was that?), then a rewatch of Teen Wolf season one while writing my Femslash 2012 story, mixed in with Veronica Mars season one. I've now moved on to Fringe after a quick break for a Creature Feature (Jurassic Park 1-3, Tremors 1-4, and Rogue), and just finished a rewatch of season two. I've seen at least the first half of season three, but I stopped watching at some point during season three because of life stuff. (Season three was my final year of grad school, I think, and there was a lot going on.) I have seasons one through four thanks to Amazon's big recent sale. I'm not sure what I'll move on to after that; maybe Community, which I also grabbed in the sale. Maybe it's time for another Buffy/Angel rewatch.

TV on DVD. It is the BEST. (No sarcasm this time.)

I'm not feeling well -- mostly cramps but possibly another ear infection fighting to take over -- and so spent the day on the couch trying to do work but mostly catching up on Fringe. I watched "Northwest Passage" and "Over There" parts one and two, the last three episodes of the season, and in fact am watching "Northwest Passage" again, I enjoyed it so much.

I don't really have spoilers, but this season of Fringe in particular has just overwhelmed me with how much I love the women, both the recurring characters as well as the one-off characters. This was particularly true in "Northwest Passage," which is why I'm watching it again.

Also, I think I'm finally a Josh Jackson fan, despite not being a fan since all the way back in Mighty Ducks.

Oh, show. So much love for you and your ridiculous science and your amazing women.

It has been ages since I read and recced fic.

Star Trek: [personal profile] bravecows wrote The First Time, which includes original characters in the Star Trek universe being political and awesome and has one of the sweetest crushes. As I said in my comment after reading it, I found myself really rooting for the main character both in her Starfleet dreams and her romantic desires. Feera is an amazing character.

I'm also finally starting to read Gilmore Girls fic, and after the mess of what I've been watching lately, I think I'm going to need it. (Almost done with the series, though.) I will happily take any recs you have.

Gilmore Girls: The Power of Myth, Rory/Paris
Spoilers/Continuity: Future AU with spoilers through the end of S5.
Warnings: Overt liberal politics. RPS gently implied.
Summary: Dateline: Washington, DC, January 2012. 50 awesomely improbable moments in the future of Paris Geller.

I love [livejournal.com profile] mosca's Paris voice a lot and really love the friendship and romance between Paris and Rory. Also, some of the background details made me unbelievably happy.

More painkillers and I am going (back) to bed, but I did catch up on Fringe (just in time for a hiatus until April, what fresh hell?) and oh, you guys, I am in love with Agent Olivia Dunham. And a little bit with Peter Bishop, which is unfortunate, because I have been not falling for Josh Jackson's characters since 1992 (The Mighty Ducks, what?) and I hate to break tradition. Oh well. God, Fringe, show of my heart, come back to me.

Stuff I love about tv!

slight spoilers for Bones, Mayhem on a Cross )

slight spoilers for Fringe, Unleashed )

Finally, ever since Ever since Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, I've been just overwhelmed by Stephen Fry. I mean, I've always been a fan, but when J. suggested I watch that, it broke me right open.

Scooby Doo is on and they are trying to trap a vampire. I LOVE YOU SCOOBY DOO.

There's a bunch of teenagers taking pictures in the hallway outside my apartment. I'm guessing there was probably a birthday party or something. They sound terribly adorable (if a little loud, but that's teenagers for you!) and I keep having to smother my laughter.

(OMG THEY ARE SO CUTE! They are trying to convince the parents to let them stay, and they talk about how they're all black kids with dreams of fun, and then one of them leaps out and says "I have a dream of staying in this black man's house." They are all so sad to be saying good night and they are ADORABLE and I really, really love my neighbors. Between them and the awesome guys downstairs with their Obama love during the election and the people with the gorgeous dogs upstairs, I don't know how I lucked out with these neighbors. The people downstairs are new this year and either the people upstairs are, too, or their dogs are. Across the hall have been here since before I moved in, because they have decorations on their door.)

This isn't actually why I came here to post, but it was so cute I had to write it down.

Vid Recs

Charmax's multi-fandom vid "Destiny Calling" is awesome. Superheroes are wonderful and seeing them all here together made my heart swell with love for these source materials I've loved for so long. Also the song is great; I'd never heard it before, but the chorus really gets to me: "Here we come / this is our destiny calling / we're freaks / this is our destiny calling." There are moments when I get chills. I love the way the vid highlights the way that so many superhero films use the same movements, the same basic actions, and the way these things have built into this epic hero myth which is bigger than any one source material. The repetition could be considered lazy or stereotypical or overdone in the individual sources but in the video they come together to be this repeating litany of how strange the life of a superhero would be, and at the same time highlights how incredible these powers are when they are used well.

Like I said, it gave me chills.

(Also, for writing purposes, I am so inspired by this: Don't believe the adverts / don't believe the experts / everyone will sell our souls and Tell us when our time's up / show us how to die well / show us how to let it all go.)

Eruthors and Thingswithwiths' multi-fandom vid "One Night Fandoms: A Tribute to Yuletide" is also awesome. I'm really intrigued by the idea of one night stand fandoms versus relationship fandoms and how a lot of my one night stand fandoms I don't actually think about as one night stands (and many of which I've written for Yuletide and which are included in this vid) and how we can relate personal opinions on relationships with how we discuss fandoms and monogamy and one night stands, etc.

But mostly I just love seeing all the various sexy bits of fandoms brought together. Again with the similarity of images - kissing and hugging and touching, but also playing guitars and bondage and smoking. I think it appeals to my love of the commonality of stories and imagery, the way things echo within the world.

I may have recced this before, but even if I have, it deserves another rec: Flummery's "Handlebars" is a Doctor Who vid that is creepy and delicious. I don't even watch DW. I don't even like DW, honestly; I tried one episode awhile ago because it had a werewolf, but it didn't do anything for me. This vid, though, is glorious.

Mostly I love the song, and am inspired to write, but I also love the way Flummery builds the images up to follow the driving danger which goes along with the song. I mean, the lyrics build from something not dangerous into an apocalypse, and apparently DW does the same thing, at least based on this vid. It's incredibly well done and it makes my breath catch. It makes me want to watch the show, because it makes the show look overwhelming and unbelievable.

Links

"Nevermind Zombies - I've Moved on to Werewolves. Come to werewolf country, it's a lot of fun! I love vampires and zombies, but werewolves are my favorites.

Awesome link from that article: Werewolves are Running the Asylum in Hollywood". Despite the fact that I've read and enjoyed 30 Days of Night, I hadn't heard of Welcome to Hoxford which is a comic about, well, werewolves running an asylum. I need to track this comic down, but even better, 1492 has acquired the film rights. Come on, werewolf movie! I need a new one!

I think [livejournal.com profile] thrace_ has figured out why I now love Fringe so much. I didn't start out loving it; it took months for me to make it all the way through the first episode, but by the time I finally watched through to the hiatus, I had fallen in love with it, and I am so giddy that it's back that I can't really put it into words. (Link has some spoilers for a recent episode.)

(I should say that bad, unbelievable science isn't a turnoff for me. I'm pretty much the ideal bad, unbelievable science viewer. As long as you can convince me in the story that the science is supposed to work, I'll believe it. So Fringe didn't lose me based on that, like so many people I know complain. Same deal with Bones, honestly.)

But I think [livejournal.com profile] thrace_ has it.

Cut for light spoilers )

I'm trying to watch Fringe. I've been trying to watch the first episode ever since it aired, and have yet to make it all the way through. Today I finally managed to make it to Josh Jackson's introduction, which is farther than ever before. Maybe I'll actually finish it. I'm not sure why I am so determined to watch this show, except that it seems like it should be right up my alley and I don't understand why I haven't been able to get into it at all.

Plus, though The Mighty Ducks fandom and then Dawsons Creek people coming into the fandom kind of ruined JJack for me, I do like some of his work, and think this could be fun.

---

As for the Twilight girl slash percolating in my brain, the biggest down side to watching it is that I would really need to go see the movie again, and even though I had fun, I'm not interested in paying more money to see it again. Now, I could wait until it was available from Netflix, but that means sitting on these stories for a long time. I will have to consider this. Of course, I'm pretty busy the next couple weeks, so I shouldn't be writing fic anyway, except for Yuletide.
