December Talking Meme Master List

(There are still some days left open in the meme, if you want to suggest a(nother) topic.)

Day 10 was suggested by [personal profile] frayadjacent: Talk about some character types and/or story tropes that you love.

For characters, I tend to like characters who measure their words, but when they do speak, have smart things to say; feisty, snarky characters that use their words to keep most people at a distance but let their chosen few in; characters, particularly girls and women, who have to rise above what people think they see in them in order to do great things (like save the world); and characters who love their family (and family is both birth and chosen) and are willing to do anything to protect them.

For stories, I love adventure stories, especially those with monsters and magic; mysteries and case fic; individual people coming together as a family, no matter how different they are; best friends to lovers; werewolves in everything; and, most important, stories that, no matter what's happening in them, allow girls and women to be awesome, nuanced, amazing characters.

I have some vid recs for you!

"Around the Bend" a multifandom fanvid about awesome women driving fast machines. This is my new favorite vid and I just had to stop and rewatch it because it is so wonderful. Sexy and fun and amazing and I own probably 90% of the source material, so it sort of feels like it was made for me.

"Love Letter" a Lilo and Stitch fanvid. At first I wasn't sure about this, but then I almost started crying, it so very well captured the lovely feel of the movie.

"Narrow Escape" a multifandom apocalypse fanvid.

I'm not feeling well -- mostly cramps but possibly another ear infection fighting to take over -- and so spent the day on the couch trying to do work but mostly catching up on Fringe. I watched "Northwest Passage" and "Over There" parts one and two, the last three episodes of the season, and in fact am watching "Northwest Passage" again, I enjoyed it so much.

I don't really have spoilers, but this season of Fringe in particular has just overwhelmed me with how much I love the women, both the recurring characters as well as the one-off characters. This was particularly true in "Northwest Passage," which is why I'm watching it again.

Also, I think I'm finally a Josh Jackson fan, despite not being a fan since all the way back in Mighty Ducks.

Oh, show. So much love for you and your ridiculous science and your amazing women.
