Oh, man, I need to up my protein intake, I can already tell. Must eat more protein. I don't cook, at all, I hate to do so, which makes this request a little weird, but what are your favorite ways/recipes to get more protein in your diet?

(Okay, I can already tell there will be pervy answers to this. Perverts!)

I crave chicken right now.

Also, I love Lost and Delirious. I'm watching it a second time before I send it back to Netflix, but oh, so much love. I wish [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop was here to watch this with me, or better yet I wish we were someplace warm, with a pool, and lots of ciggies, and writing discussion and writing. So pretty much the Florida holiday all over again, except I prefer Hawaii and California to Florida, personally.

Chicken baked in Italian dressing is to die for, especially when cut into pieces and put on a salad with the same sort of dressing.

Mmmmm. That sounds really good, and I'm not even a big fan of Italian dressing. I have chicken breast waiting to be cooked, so I think I'm going to try this over the weekend. Thank you!

Milk has protein! I believe it has 8 grams of it per cup. I drink that stuff faster than beer.

What? Milk instead of beer? What is this?

I'm lactose intolerant, so I don't drink a lot of milk, but I do have pills for it, and I do need more protein since I've started lifting weights seriously again, so I may have to give it another try. Thank you.

Your icon is gorgeous. I love that movie.

Sandwiches with some kind of meat are a good way to go - turkey, roast beef, etc. They're easy to make and darned tasty if you get good meat and condiments.

That's a good point. I've kind of shied away from having sandwich meat around, because I don't eat it fast enough to get through a package before it goes bad, while before anything I didn't eat, J. would take care of for me, but maybe if I make a concentrated effort to eat more meat on each sandwich, I won't be wasting food. This is a really good suggestion, thank you!

My advice would be, if at all possible, don't get the pre-packaged stuff. Get the meat from a deli instead. Most grocery stores these days have some kind of deli so you shouldn't have to go out of your way. I always get my sandwich meat from the deli; it's only a couple bucks more expensive but there's a huge difference in taste (to me, at least). Plus you can get whatever quantity you like, so if you don't think you'll eat much of it just get a half or a quarter pound at a time or whatever. You may actually save money since you won't be throwing out meat you don't use.

Edamame. It gives you a salt fix and it's a no-fuss food. Plus you can act all superior about eating it cuz it's a vegetable.

Does it have a really salty taste to it in that salt fix? I'm not a big fan of salt, to the extent when we grill at work, they make my food separate because they all like theirs with added salt.

How do you eat it? Raw? Cooked any special way? I don't think I've had it before (though, since I don't cook for myself most of the time, there's always the chance I just didn't know I was eating it).

Thank you!

NUTS.

(Haha, that was only a little perverted).

Have a big bag of nuts by the computer/TV and just go crazy.

Less perverted than I expected from YOU!

See, nuts are always so salty, and I hate salt. HATE IT. Plus I am not a big fan of nuts, though I have heard a lot of people say nuts are good snacks, filling and healthy. I may have to keep trying until I find a kind I like.

PEANUT BUTTER!!!

also: almonds [any nuts/legumes, really], dark green leafys (broccoli, spinach) -- okay, you don't cook, but I'm a fan of frozen veggies where you just add boiling water.

Are you vegetarian/vegan? The intuitive response to "protein" is "animal products," but since I'm vegetarian I tend to *not* recommend animal products to people.

Oh, and chickpeas [listed in at least one of the above links] are what hummus is made of, so you can get hummus from the grocery and use it as a sandwich spread. My sandwich of choice is hummus, mushrooms, spinach, and grated carrots, but you can combine just about any veggies with hummus. Oh, and falafel is yummy, too (made from fava beans or chickpeas). A friend of mine's mom made falafel balls for me one time, but I wonder if you couldn't buy them premade at a grocery.

I started with peanut butter today, thank you! I'm also going to try that old childhood favorite again, peanut butter on celery sticks. I'd almost forgotten how good that always tasted.

I'm not vegetarian, I'm just not a big fan of most meats. I like chicken all the time, and turkey sometimes, but the others, especially red meat, I don't normally eat of my own accord.

Spinach is possibly my favorite vegetable, as long as it is raw. In salads, on sandwiches, yum.

Thank you for all of this, it really helps, and I'm actually excited about trying new things. Including cooking some of them, which almost never happens, so that's fantastic.

I was going to say peanut butter too. Cause I love me some of that.

And about preferring Hawaii and California to Florida... HEY! I live in Florida. But then again I've never been to Hawaii and haven't been to California since I was a child, so I have no idea what I'm talking about. Hee.

I started with the peanut butter today, and it was delicious.

Hee. I actually went to Florida for the first time last September (which means I only have Alaska left and I'll have hit all fifty states, yay), with my best friend, [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop. She flew over from England, I flew down from Missouri, and we spent two weeks near Orlando, in a beautiful villa with a pool, swimming every day. I liked Florida, it just wasn't as much fun as Hawaii and California. Of course, I lived in California, and spent more time in Hawaii (plus when I was in Hawaii I was staying with family who had been there for years, so it wasn't all about me playing tourist guide in a place I'd never been, which, though the holiday itself was wonderful, was very tiring).

I'd like to go back to Florida someday, minus the parts of the holiday which were negative and frustrating, and give it another go. We were only able to go to Disney and Busch Gardens, so I'd like to see more.
