lightbird talks about a Shakesville Question of the Day: If you were to be summoned by occult means, what three items would be placed in the summoning circle?

First, gather the center: saltwater, fresh from the ocean; paint smears, shades of blue; a story of monsters and women, pages worn, dirt stained, edges burned.

Pour a circle, gasoline. Breathe deep. Strike a match, sharp flash against your fingertips. Too close, step back, try again. Light the circle, bits of metal in the flames.

Wait, salt and water, fire and earth. Skin too tight, heat, singed hair.

I'll burst forth, broken, bloody, bruised.

Huh. I've seen a version of this on tumblr as bait for responses. Like, you ask yous followers what 5 things they'd use to summon you and then you wait to see if anyone has the spoons to answer that day. :P It's hard to be a lurker on tumblr imo, there's an awful lot of memes the you need followers to respond to!

I haven't seen one done as poetry though, this is really neat.
