First, gather the center: saltwater, fresh from the ocean; paint smears, shades of blue; a story of monsters and women, pages worn, dirt stained, edges burned.
Pour a circle, gasoline. Breathe deep. Strike a match, sharp flash against your fingertips. Too close, step back, try again. Light the circle, bits of metal in the flames.
Wait, salt and water, fire and earth. Skin too tight, heat, singed hair.
I'll burst forth, broken, bloody, bruised.
