I'm giving Hellcats a try, because I love cheerleading, though I am already unimpressed with the anti-athlete aspect of the intro. However, the show looks like it will address it, and hopefully in a way that doesn't make the athleticism a big joke.
The team doctor is D.B. Woodside. First thing I said was HELLO ROBIN WOOD WELCOME BACK TO MY TELEVISION.
Though, uh, learning how to be a cheerleader during a montage set to "I Want Candy" while watching Bring It On may undercut that some.
I do like that Marti impresses them by doing her own thing during tryouts, but they're doing a mid-season replacement who needs to learn all their choreography very quickly. I'm not sure only being able to do her own thing is actually believable. I suppose without it there's no show, so I'll go with it for now.
I'm a fan of the cheerleader coach, Vanessa, too. She's dating the team doctor and she's fighting hard to keep the cheerleaders competing. Of course, she has history with Red, the potential new football coach.
"Save the cheerleaders, save the scholarship." HEE!
Aww, she was a gymnast up until high school. Senior year they made state, but her drunk mom and her drunk mom's drunk date really embarrassed her, so she missed a jump and fell and got laughed at even before her mother puked on her. I'm thinking crossover with Bring It On coming up soon.
The woman who got injured whom Marti is replacing just invited Marti's mom to qualifiers. Oh god, this is going to be dramatic, isn't it? Though I really wish Marti had a healthy family life and still needed a scholarship. Healthy families are dramatic and fun too.
I really do not believe so many of these cheerleaders are competing with their hair down.
I do love this song, though. (Mika "We're Golden" I think I first heard it on Make It or Break It and hey, there's a crossover I'd love to read.)
Of course we don't get to see qualifiers until the next episode. I'm looking forward to it.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Savannah writes words on people's arms to give them that quality and at the very end of the episode, we see Marti with "fly." I'm a big fan of writing on yourself (and getting tattoos) with inspiring words.
Okay, I'm totally watching next week.
