Even though I am still worried about the story I wrote for Remix, I am thrilled that [livejournal.com profile] remixredux08 is live, because not only are there tons of exciting stories to read, I got the best of the lot.

No, seriously, my Remixer took a tiny Faith drabble I wrote years ago and turned it into an incredible, detailed, amazing crossover.

"Sometimes (I Can Make) It Better (Fangs and Fur Remix)". It is BtVS meets Ginger Snaps, Faith and Brigitte, and oh, it's amazing.

Summary: Faith searches for Slayerettes and finds an unlikely candidate.

I am thrilled and excited and so very lucky.

I've been stuck on my Remix for awhile now. It's very nearly done, but I just couldn't finish it, so I set it aside for a few days and stopped trying to force it. I just reread what I have, and I really, really like it. When did that happen?

Now if only I could finish it. There is only about a hundred words left of story to tell, and I can't make it happen. Come on, story, just let me end you. That's it, nothing much, just a tiny little scene in the middle to tie things together.

I seem to have started another Supernatural story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_xx. How'd that happen? I remember when I wrote "a billion chinese people can't be wrong" and said it was the only time I would write Supernatural. It seems I lied. Another story or so and I'll qualify for it in the Remix next year, if [livejournal.com profile] musesfool does it again.

---

Speaking of the Remix, I am doing something new this year. I'm not sure if it is going to work. I hope it will. I hope my assigned author doesn't mind. I don't think ze will, but you never know.

I already have a title, which is unusual for me (to have one so early). I love it. Now let's see if I can make the story work, too. So far, each word is a struggle.

I have finished reading my flist and leaving comments and writing and have even studied some, and still it isn't time to go to class, so I was forced to go read back through old entries and I found this story of mine and it reminded me to look into a ficathon and, well, here.

[livejournal.com profile] femslash08 is taking place after Memorial Day this year. It was so much fun last year, and I ended up writing a story which, when I reread it just now, still gave me chills. It's rare I am this satisfied with a story I've written, but the language here and the beauty of insanity and the threat of vampirism and the fact it was a new fandom for me -- I am so excited about [livejournal.com profile] femslash08 because [livejournal.com profile] femslash07 was such a wonderful experience.

"Into her Dreams (Vampire Edit)"

There is a lot to this story I love, but this part from the end made me cheer, I was so pleased with the way the words and the rhythm worked together.

cut for space )

It still makes me sigh with satisfaction of a job well done. I don't usually feel that way. It makes me want to write more in this series -- especially after For a Few Demons More. I should reread and write.

Now if only my Remix was coming along so well.

There are many things I should be doing right now. Instead I will talk about titles, because Remix/Redux has me thinking about them a lot. I think part of the appeal of Remix to me is the title aspect; certainly the stories I've written which I enjoy most have titles I love. This doesn't always happen outside of the Remix, either.

So, let's talk about titles, and not just Remix titles, either.

Good grief, I can ramble. )

So now I really need to be doing something productive. I want to stay at home, have some ice cream, and work on this year's Remix, because I now have two potential stories to do, but that won't happen until Saturday night or Sunday.

40 Miles North of Presidio

I kind of love the Tim Riggins here, after high school, and trying to find his own happiness.

ETA: There is actually a series!

---

I think I've picked the story I'm going to remix. It's hard, because the stories are all so complete. When I choose a story to remix (when I choose a fandom in which to write, even), I look for chinks in it, places I can manipulate and stretch and find something new.
escritoireazul: (mean girls regiona manipulates)
Okay, so the next time I get in from a late flight and can't sleep, I need to remember NOT to watch a beautiful and heartbreaking movie. Good grief. What was I thinking? I know how much Bridge to Terabithia hurts, I had all this fear that the movie wouldn't be as painful as the book, but oh, it is. It really is. So now it is almost four a.m. and my heart is broken and I still can't sleep.

Anyway. On to much more fun topics.

I was thrilled when I received my Remix assignment, in part because there were so many fantastic stories I could rewrite, and in part because Ion Bond wrote that fantastic Remix for me last year, and I was absolutely giddy with the chance to do a story in return.

There are actually two versions of the original story, "Countdown", one in reverse (like the Remix) and one in chronological order. I like them both a lot, but one of the things I liked most about the reverse version is that the story starts with Pyro and peels away layers of him until he's just John again. As I've said many times before, one of the reasons I like Pyro in the movieverse so much is because of his identity issues, and the way he wants to be one thing and doesn't want to be another and, in reality, he's both and even more.

Title: Count (the Burn) Down (The Stop, Drop, and Roll Remix)
Author: Carla (escritoireazul)
Summary: Pyro’s been waiting his whole life.
Rating: 17+ for language
Fandom: X-Men Movieverse
Warnings: language, het, slash
Spoilers: Through X2
Title, Author and URL of original story: Countdown by Ion Bond, written for [livejournal.com profile] remix_redux

I hope to have more recs later this week, but first I wanted to talk about the amazing, wonderful story someone wrote for me. "Twinkie Run (The Stars & Gartes Remix)" is a fantastic remix of my "on the road with disposable comestibles". The author's Hank and Bobby friendship is perfect, just absolutely what I wanted to see in the movieverse, but that's not the only good thing here. Kitty is a great character, her personality shines out of the story, and Emma is absolutely, without a doubt, awesome beyond the telling of it.

Thank you, anonymous remixer. Thank you so much!

Everyone else, you should read the story. The Hank voice is excellent, and the whole thing just fills me with a wonderful glee.
escritoireazul: (blue crush giddy)
Oh, people, do you know how much I love my remix redux assignment? A lot. A whole lot. I love it like a burning thing, which is actually a nice, clever word play based on the situation, but unfortunately none of you can know about that yet. Just know that I am beyond thrilled, I am absolutely giddy and filled with glee, both by the story I just chose to remix and by the actual assignment itself. You'll see why I'm amused and pleased.

That being said, here's a quick letter to whomever received me as an assignment.

Dear Remixer,

I'm sorry my stories aren't all located in one place. I hope between Escritoire Azul's automated fic archive and the older stories at Of Luv and Blood, you'll be able to find what you need. (Any story written since I started this livejournal can also be found in the memories, under FIC:[fandom].)

I am of the mind that the remixer should get as much freedom as possible, so really, whatever you want to do will be fine. I love to see how my stories are changed, twisted, dark corners brought into light, and I have never disliked how a remixer has treated my work.

I am already thankful that you chose to participate and that you received my name. The most important thing is I want you to have fun with whatever you do.

"Weighs Nothing: Five Lies That Connor's Father Told Him" by [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 is a series of linked drabbles which will break your heart.

And now for Remix/Redux IV: I Know What You Did Last Remix stories, all anonymous!

The most important, of course, is the remix written for me.

"The Man I Could Be (The Paved With Good Intentions remix)" is a remix of my Man I Could Be, but this new story is the one I wish I had written. It's beautiful, and painful, and detailed, and absolutely amazing. I'm still in awe of it, and don't know what to say beyond I love it. It's Harry Potter fandom, about Ron and the way he views his family, and I adore it.

"Light In the Darkness (Samsara mix)" is a beautiful Firefly story about Inara and River, and how Inara sees and hears the things no one else is willing to understand.

"Abominable (The Extended [Baby-Sitters] Club remix) is an Angel story crossed over with The Baby-Sitters Club about a young genius woman, Janine, who is tempted by Wolfram & Hart's east coast office, and finds a friend in Fred. It's that, but it's so much more, loneliness and fear and all sorts of things.

More to come later, but I just can't concentrate today.

Hee. I was right. Can I call it or what? When you've been friends with someone for years and read her writing for as long, you just know. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] das_hydra, for writing the wonderful remix story for me!

To remind the rest of you out there, she wrote me a The Lost Boys remix story, Double Down (Be Kind, Please Rewind Remix) and you should all go read it.

I can now announce my remix, too.

I wrote sins of the flesh (the tastes like chicken remix), a remix of koanju's Sins of the Flesh. It's all about Remus Lupin and the summary is: Remus loves the taste of meat.

Many, many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kphoebe for the beta. You're amazing, darling, as a writer and as an editor. Thank you.

Closer I'm Bound (the long distance remix): Four things that didn't happen to Scott Summers. Or so he pretends.

It's strange, to see the world through red. It's strange, to see the world after living it in the dark. And this, this story, these four things -- unbelievable. The final section is my favorite and just broke my heart.

Unspoken (Living in Rewind Remix): They were too late. The camp is abandoned; the mutants within it are dead. All that's left is burial duty.

Character death and romance and rotten luck. Beautiful word choice and a haunting, but truthful, scenario.

Two Measures in Three Quarter Time (Waltz, Cadenza Remix): There are things you never forget.

Oh my god. The descriptions throughout this story overwhelm and the characters (and their emotions) are so true, from the good reaction sto the bad. It's beautiful and painful and wonderful, all at once.

Tea Time in Genosha (The Negasonic Teenage Warhead Remix): Emma, Genosha, and relativity at quarter of three.

Really, not a lot to say beyond the author's summary. Emma's characterization sparks, the relativity is incorporated well, and the whole story ties together nicely.

The Remix/Redux stories are up!

Everything is still anonymous, but ... yay! Eeee! *squee*

Sorry, I love my story. It takes the original, crappy story and twists the POV so that it's wonderful and interesting and I really never saw the women empowerment issues that have now popped up. Oh man. It's fabulous.

I'm almost as excited to hear what the author I remixed thinks as I am to find out who wrote mine. I have my ideas, but we'll see if they're right. Hee. Names go up Friday.

ohmygod

Go read the remix written for me, "Double Down (Be Kind, Please Rewind Remix)". Also? How cute is that remix title? And how appropriate? Much more interesting than "Second Chances", which is what I called it.

Oh man. So excited! But I have to go to bed. I work at 4 a.m. tomorrow.

I want to stay up and read! NOT FAIR! Hee.

Oh god yes, received my remix beta from [livejournal.com profile] kphoebe and I love her. It's excellent and helpful and I think I'm beginning to do better on those horrible Americanisms. Only one big one this time. Thank you so much!

I can't wait to work on draft two. I'm watching Ginger Snaps Back and then I'm going to finish it. The remixes are due in a week and then the authors remain a secret for awhile longer and then I can finally talk about it. Because oh, now I want to ramble about it.

[livejournal.com profile] kphoebe gave me some brilliant ideas to add to the remix. It's still fairly short, but it works, and that's what's important.

Also, J took me to see The Pacifier tonight. Stupid, stupid movie, not as funny as I'd hoped, but vague spoiler down below )

J told my mom about my lust for Vin Diesel. She giggled. I'm not sure what that means.

Woo! Remix (draft one) is complete.

It's less than 2,000 words, but so far, I like it. I'm not sure it has the tone I want, but I'll work on it again tomorrow and I hope I'll get a good beta on it that will help. I've purposely added in some tense changes to help separate the sections and I hope that part works, too.

I really want to work on that damn Dom story sitting on my desktop hard drive. J and M have been playing with the computers this evening, but didn't get around to loading my desktop pc, so I haven't had the chance to pull it to the laptop. I'm tempted to just rewrite it, because I couldn't have been more than two hundred words in, but I don't remember how I started it and I really liked the beginning. It flowed well.
escritoireazul: (Default)
I'm one thousand words into my remix. I like it and I love the original story I chose, but the remix is very disjointed. I should finish the first draft in the next day or so and then I'll need to find a beta and try to rearrange some of the ideas so that it flows. Or maybe I'll leave it disjointed, if it all seems to work in the end.

Yay for descriptive dark writing. My favorite.

And man, I can't wait to talk about the story. It's so hard to keep my mouth shut.
escritoireazul: (Default)
I've finally worked out the frame for my remix story. I'm actually excited about it; it's strange, how you can go from being frustrated and nearly hating a story to loving it when that final detail clicks into place. Or maybe that's just me, because I do my own writing from a detailed outline. You'd think it would be easier to write a remix, then, because the original story is right there and it's more detailed than my outlines. (Well, sometimes. There are stories that are less detailed than one of my outlines, but not in this case.)

The point is, I am excited about it. I also came up with an idea for my comica obscura assignment and for a drabble set in The Fast and the Furious. It's amazing how many ideas come to me because I can't sleep. I should have gotten up and come in here to write, but I didn't want to wake J. and he always wakes up when I get up. He says it's because I'm clutzy and bang into things, but even when I don't, he wakes up. I say it's because he's a werewolf and can hear the slightest movement.

I'll probably be quiet on here after this, for a day or two at least. We're getting ready to move and we pick up the truck in the morning, but won't leave town until Tuesday. So you won't hear much from me for awhile, but I am here and I am looking forward to the writing, both mine and the writing with others.

I also remembered, in the wee hours of the morning, that I'm supposed to be writing a piece based on The Lost Boys with [livejournal.com profile] das_hydra and one or two other people. I'm so sorry I forgot about it! I know what Dwayne's background is now, and I'll get it written up a.s.a.p. once I get settled.

Inspiration struck as well about my website and how I want to redo it and make it smaller. When I get the chance (I have to work on J's website first), I'm going to change all the graphics and the layout and I think shut it down to just my stories.
