Shipoween 2019 Dear Creator Letter
Sep. 18th, 2019 05:18 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Dear Shipoween Creator,
It’s my favorite time of year: horror and Halloween and fall weather and this year I’m excited to add Shipoween.
Below, I provide Do Not Wants and general likes, then go into why I like specific fandoms and characters and provide some prompts. If there is a discrepancy between the DNWs and general likes and the fandom-specific information, go with the fandom-specific information. Mixing and matching fandoms and prompts more than welcome.
My absolute favorite things: werewolves, crossovers and alternate universes, and monsters and magic.
I requested fic and spooky, seasonal, and no theme. I know this is a Trick or Treat thing and not a Shipoween thing, but I find it useful and want to include a similar note here: You may ignore my art/fic preferences for extra gifts.
My AO3 name is also escritoireazul.
General Likes
+ stories about women, including f/f, gen, and het
+ werewolves, werewolf packs as families, and werewolf alternate universes in any canon
+ Halloween and horror movies, particularly horror movie alternate universes in any canon
+ chosen families and adoption stories where adoption is treated as totally normal, adoption and chosen families = real families, and the adoption is not a BIG DRAMATIC SECRET
+ alternate universes, a non-exhaustive list: werewolves, witches and witch hunters, IN SPACE, horror movies, haunted summer camps, ghost hunters (including this state-mandated idea), portal fantasies, monsters, canon divergence, weird west/wild west (I particularly like the outlaw feel of it, untamed and wild, big spaces with nowhere to hide, big woods claustrophobic around you, danger at every turn, as long as the AU avoids the magical Indian/savage Indian/white savior bullshit that can show up in weird west and westerns in general)
+ polyam families, threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes, in all configurations (Vs, triangles, dodecahedrons)
+ monsters of the week, casefic, adventure stories, mysteries
+ friends and family teaming up to save the world, particularly on road trips
+ crossovers and fusions so long as my requested characters are the main characters
+ tropes, a non-exhaustive list: wilderness survival, huddling for warmth, forced proximity, friends to lovers, enemies to friends (to lovers), there’s only one bed oh no, fake dating, survival horror, abandoned ships, burial at sea, burial by fire, crashed on a deserted island, ghost ships, not-so-safe harbour, locked-room mysteries, came back wrong
+ kink (female top/dom only except for biting and bloodplay): biting, light bondage, impact play, rough body play, bloodplay for supernatural characters, fireplay, marking, sensory overload, orgasm denial/control, pegging
Do Not Wants
+ characters dealing with racism, sexism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, fat hate, or ableism within the story
+ character bashing or villainizing
+ rape, non-con, and dub-con
+ embarrassment/humiliation
+ animal cruelty or death (except for where it would be appropriate for farm animals or wild animals to be harmed by a non-human monster -- no matter what, though, no harm to dogs)
+ permanent character death for my requested characters
+ incest
+ big age difference in romantic relationships (except for supernatural characters), particularly an older man/younger woman
+ a/b/o or werewolf stories with Big Tough Alpha Male tropes
+ pregnancy, including mpreg
+ spiders, especially in art
Requests
There are spoilers below for each of my requests (except Original Work), which are:
Agent Carter: Peggy Carter/Daniel Sousa/Jack Thompson
The Meg: Jonas Taylor/Suyin Zhang, Jonas Taylor/Suyin Zhang & Meiying Zhang, Jonas Taylor & Meiying Zhang
Original Work: Werewolf/Werewolf Hunter (M/F or F/F), Werewolf/female Alpha Werewolf
Pacific Rim: Raleigh Becket/Mako Mori
Stranger Things: Jonathan Byers/Steve Harrington/Nancy Wheeler
Agent Carter: Peggy Carter/Daniel Sousa/Jack Thompson
What I Like About the Source Material:
Oh, man, season two had me shipping them hard, and that ending was killer. I love how competent they all are in their own ways (and I particularly love Peggy the bruiser). I love how they don’t trust each other even when they’re working together and how they all keep trying to do the right thing they just have different ideas of what that is, and how they change over the years, how they get harder in some ways and softer in others, how they find ways to work together and save the world, how they still spark off each other.
Prompts:
Case fic! Whatever did that key at the end of season two open? More shenanigans with Dottie Underwood and the Red Room and girls trained to be killers. There’s so much out in the universe they don’t yet know about, what are some things they might find out?
Hurt/comfort! Jack’s been shot! Peggy and Daniel save him from the edge of death! He’s a terrible patient and they have to basically tie him up to keep him from going back to work and injuring himself further.
Complicated relationships! Bicoastal living (Jack sure did seem to hate L.A.), workplace romances, secret threesomes, how to keep the others from being used against them by bad guys, it can be a real mess for those three, and I love it.
AUs. I love them all.
The Meg:
Jonas Taylor/Suyin Zhang
Jonas Taylor/Suyin Zhang & Meiying Zhang
Jonas Taylor & Meiying Zhang
What I Like About the Source Material:
Pretty much everything! I love how it takes a tropey creature feature, adds characters with decently developed personalities, and makes me love everything about them. I love Meiying being feisty and smart, I love the snarkiness between Jonas and Suyin (and really Jonas and Meiying, too). I love how competent both Jonas and Suyin are in their own ways, how they save each other multiple times, how Suyin judges him harshly in the beginning and then comes around but that doesn’t soften the edge of their teasing. I love how much Suyin wants to make her father proud, and how heartbroken she is over his loss and his final words to her. I love Meiying’s sense of adventure and drive to explore, just like the adults around her. I love Jonas’ sense of humor and dry wit.
I love how they basically become one big family as they work together, Lori and Jax and DJ and Mac, too, all of them, survivors or the dead.
Prompts:
Adventures! What other creatures come up from the deep? Giant octopus making its way? How long can Suyin possibly stay away from science and diving? Surely word will get out and some government or laboratory somewhere will go back down, certain they can control it, and then it goes terribly wrong.
Slice of life! Jonas, Suyin, and Meiying on that vacation. Maybe far away from the water, but maybe in it, too. Meiying teasing Jonas through daily life.
AUs! Everyone lives. Prehistoric creatures aren’t the only monsters in the world, and the more they look at strange events, the more they find. IN SPACE! And all the alien life they would find there. Superheroes saving the world. Time travel shenanigans. Weird west, maybe with werewolves.
Love and romance and sex! I love tropey romance: forced proximity, hurt/comfort, relying on each other to survive, fake relationship, two people one bed, everything. My favorite thing about their interactions is the way they have sharp edged snark and jokes without being cruel, a give and take that is fun for them both.
Original Work: Werewolf/Werewolf Hunter (M/F or F/F), Werewolf/female Alpha Werewolf
The Original Work category always has such solid, inspiring nominations.
I’d love anything and everything for these characters. Weird west, survival horror, put everyone in space, make it all tropey so they are trapped in a cabin or deep in the woods and have to rely on each other to survive, two people one bed, falling in love with the person you’re supposed to hate, secret identities and the fallout from that.
Hunter turned hunted, hunter and werewolf teaming up together to survive something else, alpha bringing a new werewolf into her pack, nontraditional werewolf worldbuilding, having to team up to deal with dinosaurs or aliens or giant prehistoric sharks from the deep, science making a mess of things, anything, really.
Pacific Rim: Raleigh Becket/Mako Mori
What I Love About the Source Material
Robots fighting monsters. The way humanity goes on around all the strangeness, driven to survive. Mako’s love for the jaegers, particularly Gipsy Danger, and how hard she’s worked to restore it. The worldbuilding of the drift intrigues me to no end, especially how it does or does not change people outside the actual connection.
I love how Raleigh watches Mako, believing in her, eager and excited whenever she’s around. I love the give and take between them both physically and mentally. I love how at the end, that they have both survived is more important than a movie-ending kiss.
I’m most familiar with the first movie.
Prompts:
Adventures! They’ve closed the rift. Mako and Raleigh both survive. What do they do next? Does the program completely end? Do they get funding and support again because who knows what will come next? Do organizations try to take the science developed and discovered during the kaiju years and open up something even more terrible?
AUs! What if Raleigh and Mako had to keep piloting through more kaiju? Draft compatibility works better if you’re a werewolf or a vampire or a shapeshifter or whatever, so people get infected in order to drift better and be heroes. IN SPACE! Taking the fight to the next threat. Dimension-hopping shenanigans. Pilots go rogue and take their Jaegers with them.
Slice of life! Quiet moments during the movie, quiet moments in the time after, whatever, what does life look like for Mako and Raleigh? They’ve both lost so much, how do they get through that, individually and together? Mourning and love and heartache and acceptance, and so on.
Stranger Things: Jonathan Byers/Steve Harrington/Nancy Wheeler
What I Like About the Source Material:
Found families coming together to fight monsters. How could I not adore this? I love how all these very different people come together to save each other and the world, and even as they team up, they still fight and spark off each other and do the wrong thing and the right. They break off into smaller groups (Steve and the kids is a particular favorite of mine), they fight in different locations, they have different strengths and weaknesses, and yet somehow they manage to keep saving the world. Saving each other.
I love how much Nancy has grown into her strength, how physically strong she is and emotionally, too, how she mourns and is afraid and still keeps pushing through. I love how Jonathan is driven first to save his brother and then to keep saving him, to protect their mom, to protect the people he cares about, even as he’s awkward and fumbling and terrified. And Steve: I love how Steve changes so much, even over the first season but especially in the second, how he leaves his stereotypical popular guy facade behind and throws himself into the strange world exploding around him.
Prompts
Adventures! More monster hunting, either there at home or moving about the country, finding all the dark, dangerous places and making them safe. Road trips with or without monsters, the three of them together against the world, sending postcards home to everyone else but building their lives out there in the unknown. Trapped together in a new environment (deep woods? snowy mountain?) and having to work together to survive.
Slice of life! Domestic fluff, creepy nights, nightmares and daydreams, late night breakfasts and early coffees, college and work and summer vacations and class reunions in the future.
AUs! Werewolf pack. Haunted houses instead of the Upside Down. Different kinds of monsters come for them. IN SPACE! And the monsters that haunt empty planets and dying starships.
