Dear Trick or Treat Creator,
Halloween is my favorite holiday and fall my favorite season, so Trick or Treat is an awesome mix of things I love combined with fandoms I adore. I had a blast last year, and I can’t wait to see your creation.
Below, I’ve provided some general likes and Do Not Wants, as well as a few thoughts about why I like specific fandoms and characters. If there is a discrepancy between the general likes and DNWs and the fandom-specific information, go with the fandom-specific information. I like both fic and art, and my prompts generally work for both. Feel free to mix and match tricks and treats, within a fandom or across fandoms, or to ignore my prompts completely.
My absolutely favorite things: werewolves, crossovers, and monsters and magic.
You can find me on DW, LJ, and AO3 as escritoireazul.
Likes:
+ girl slash, gen, and het more than boy slash, mostly because I really love stories about women
+ women being awesome and competent and smart and funny and sexy
+ werewolves and werewolf packs as families and women being amazing werewolves and werewolf alternate universes in any canon and full moons over the ocean
+ chosen families being loving and protective and a little snarly with each other because they trust each other to always be there and adoption stories where adoption is treated as totally normal and not a BIG DRAMATIC SECRET to up the tension and siblings as friends and friends as family
+ Halloween and horror movies
+ roadtrip stories and motorcycle rides
+ crossovers, the more twisty and complicated the better.
Do Not Want:
+ disrespect for characters of color, queer characters (particularly bisexual and trans* characters), fat characters, or characters with mental illness
+ character bashing
+ rape and non-con and dub-con (including as backstory)
+ use of "crazy" to mean bad or dangerous or scary, etc.
+ stories set at mental hospitals, whether currently active or abandoned
+ embarrassment/humiliation
+ animal cruelty or death
+ incest
+ spiders. Especially in art, but sometimes even the word is enough to get to me.
Emelan – Tamora Pierce
Characters: Daja Kisubo
What I like: Chosen family feelings forever. Daja is my favorite (queer black woman blacksmith for the win), but I love Sandry, Tris, and Briar, too. My no incest rule can be ignored here, because I’ve seen some fantastic stories of them together (two or three or all four). I love the way their magic works, and I’d always love to see more of their adventures, either back when they lived at Winding Circle or after The Will of the Empress.
Trick Prompts:
+ Daja’s living metal creations take a dark turn.
+ Werewolves.
+ Daja is haunted by all the people she’s lost.
+ Daja fiercely, desperately misses the sea. The sea tries to call her home.
Treat Prompts:
+ Werewolves.
+ Daja’s living metal creations become something new (maybe in combination with one or more of the others’ special work).
+ Daja makes living metal pieces for her family. Tell me about some of them.
+ Daja falls in love, and this time gets her happy ending.
Jurassic Park - All Media Types
Characters: Lex Murphy, Sarah Harding, Ellie Sattler, Kelly Malcolm
What I like: Dinosaurs. I love dinosaurs so much. Girls and women getting to do amazing things and have great adventures without being treated like they are weak and worthless by the narrative. (I was less than impressed with Jurassic World because of the treatment of women and characters of color, particularly women of color.) Scientists being awesome.
I ship Sarah/Ellie, but also love them as friends, Sarah and Ian Malcolm (same), Lex/Kelly, and Lex with girls (and women) closer to her own age.
Trick Prompts:
+ Lex is too smart to end up on an island full of dinosaurs again, right? Except here she is, and here Jurassic World is going terrible, horribly wrong.
+ Sarah loves the predators, but nothing ever gives her as much a thrill as dinosaurs. She keeps working for Jurassic Park as it turns into Jurassic World. She never intended to be running through the park trying to keep everyone alive. Again.
+ Kelly has to rescue her father from another damn island of dinosaurs.
+ Werewolves.
+ Dinosaurs aren't the only science-created monsters in the world.
Treat Prompts:
+ Lex Murphy deals with Jurassic World.
+ Sarah and Ellie have long been mentors to Lex, after everything that her grandfather caused. She grows up trying to make them proud.
+ Lex reaches out to Claire after the events of Jurassic World.
+ Sarah loves the predators, but nothing ever gives her as much a thrill as dinosaurs. She keeps working for Jurassic Park as it turns into Jurassic World.
+ Kelly has to rescue her father from another damn island of dinosaurs. (She’s more than willing to ask for help.)
+ Tim schedules reunions of Jurassic Park every few years. Lex always grumbles at him, but shows up to see everyone who still lives. The stories they tell each other. Oh, the stories they tell.
Cursed (2005)
Characters: Ellie Meyers
What I Like: It's a shiny, fun movie about werewolves in the same vein (heh) as Lost Boys was for vampires, in that horror-comedy-ridiculous things kind of way. I love Ellie and her brother trying to navigate life without their parents, and Ellie trying to find ways to love and be loved when she's hurting so much. And I love the hell out of werewolves.
I ship Ellie with most people who aren't her brother and/or underage, including werewolves from other fandoms.
Trick Prompts:
+ Werewolf or human, Ellie learns there are more monsters in the world.
+ Ellie takes up werewolf hunting. It does not always go so well.
+ Zela tries and tries to stop the things she sees.
+ A fortune teller and a werewolf hunter try to save the world.
Treat Prompts:
+ Ellie builds a family.
+ Ellie stays a werewolf, and they all learn how to make a pack work.
+ Ellie takes up werewolf hunting and finds herself an awesome woman to mentor her.
+ Sometimes, Zela sees things that are good.
+ A fortune teller and a werewolf hunter walk into a bar...
Tortall – Tamora Pierce
Characters: Keladry of Mindelan, Sabine of Macayhill, Aniki Forfrysning
What I Like: Women with swords. Oh my god, all of the women with swords. Kel is my absolute favorite character in the Tortall universe, but Sabine and Aniki are close seconds. I love how Kel is so steady on the surface, even as her emotions roil, and how much her need to be fair and protect people drives her. Protector of the Small indeed. I love Sabine for her laughter and the way she doesn’t care about society’s demands on her, how unapologetic she is as a knight. I love Aniki for her laughter and her fighting and her loyalty, and I wish we’d seen a billion times more of her in the books.
I ship any of the three together (yes, even with that huge difference in time periods), Sabine/Aniki, Aniki/Kora/Rosto, and Kel/Dom.
Trick Prompts:
+ Not every rescue goes well.
+ There’s violence in her veins and metal in her blood. Sometimes, she fights to save people. Sometimes, she fights because she can, because she must.
+ There are monsters in the world, sometimes banished, sometimes not. Fighting monsters is not like fighting other knights.
+ Sabine is angry and hurt after the end of the trilogy, and takes her rage out on the world.
+ Aniki left behind a lot of people when she came to Tortall with Kora and Rosto.
Treat Prompts:
+ Sexy fun times peeling off armor, sharpening swords, fighting and fucking or fucking then fighting or any combination.
+ After the war ends, Kel finds a new purpose and adds even more strays to her family.
+ Sabine is angry and hurt after the end of the trilogy, but finds peace somehow. (Maybe with Aniki, fighting together or sleeping together or both.)
+ Tortall is very different for a woman swordfighter than it is a knight. Show me more of Aniki’s life.
The Breed (2006)
Characters: Nicki
What I Like: I love science gone wrong and animal instincts in humans (mutated animal instincts twisted by human nature, too), this group of friends and their complicated interactions, the way they hunger both before they’ve been infected and after, for food, for sex. I love the way they are basically werewolves without actually changing shape or being tied to the moon.
I ship Nicki/Sara and Nicki/John/Matt. (Again, my incest DNW does not apply here.)
Trick Prompts:
+ Hunters and their prey.
+ Nicki thinks she’s escaped, until the boat, and now the infection burns in her veins. She wants to fight and fuck and tear out throats.
+ They fight the hunger for awhile, but eventually bathe in blood.
Treat Prompts:
+ The dogs howl and call for Sara. Nicki knows one way to distract her: lips and teeth and tongue.
+ It’s twisted and strange, but she needs them and their hunger and their control.
The Librarians (TV 2014)
Characters: Alternate Universe Cassandra Cillian (And the Loom of Fate), Cassandra Cillian
What I Like: I love the delightful cheesiness of the world, and how much fun the characters have together, even when they’re bickering. I have only been able to watch season one so far, but am frantically trying to get ahold of the rest. I love the way their skills come together to save the day each time, and how they slowly learn to trust each other and manage to work together even when they don’t. I particularly love the alternate universe Librarians we get to see in “And the Loom of Fate” and would love to see more of them together. I adore Cassandra and her math, but I love Jake and Ezekial and Eve a lot, too. (I like the actual Librarian okay, but mostly prefer stories without him.)
I ship all three alternate universe librarians, Cassandra/Ezekial/Jake in the main universe, Cassandra/Eve, Alternate Universe Cassandra/Eve, and Cassandra/Alternate Universe Cassandra.
Trick Prompts:
+ Alternate Universe Cassandra’s world is overrun with monsters.
+ Cassandra tries to use math to solve people. It goes very, very wrong.
+ Cassandra or Alternate Universe Cassandra goes megalomaniacal when she’s not tempered by the others.
Treat Prompts:
+ Their universes are dying. At the very least, they get one last round of sexy fun times. Alternate Universe Cassandra takes the lead to show them how.
+ Cassandra tries to use math to solve people. It may not work, but things go well for her anyway.
+ They have to solve a werewolf mystery.
