Apparently, this has been in the rules for a couple years now, but I was unaware of it, so wanted to note it in case some of you might not know either.

From this thread:

Question: Wait, are you saying that if a writer put a recipient's squicks/triggers/DNWs in their story, the mods would only do something if it was listed in the "optional details" box but not if it was listed in their letter?

Answer: We have put this in the Optional Details rules for the last couple of years, together with the fact that people aren't allowed to write dnws - before that was only assumed, and sadly sometimes people don't follow it. We can only ensure that people see Optional Details (as letters are hosted separately, and so not included in the assignment emails) - as for example not all letters are posted before assignments and many are edited as people think of new things. We have no way to be certain whether a person has read the letter or which version. If we know anyone deliberately used a letter to write a story the recipient did not want we would deal with that as a special case, but in general OD is the part we'd use in the case of problems.

Basically, if you only list your DNWs in your letter, mods may not do anything if someone writes your DNWs.

Thanks for highlighting this. I'm not participating this year but it's good to know for future reference.

There were a couple of weird negative incidents in last year's Yuletide, including an incident where one creator bullied the recipient via the story they wrote for them -- which, I have no idea how it was done, but I could see a person's DNWs being used for that purpose by someone who was set on bullying and being cruel.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up. Good luck with Yuletide this year!
