What I'm watching these days, with brief thoughts:

+ Ace of Cakes

Oh, man Duff is awesome. And the whole crew, so talented. And the cakes! THE CAKES! I'm watching one where they're making a Harry Potter cake for the Order of the Phoenix premiere. This show entertains me and makes me want cake and makes me giggle and occasionally I coo at the television. They're just fabulous people.

+ Sons of Anarchy

Okay, I couldn't shut up about how awesome this show is, and probably slipped in what some people would consider slight spoilers, so I'm cutting it. However, I HIGHLY recommend this show.

I am so impatient for season two. I didn't really think I'd like this show - I assumed it would be typical bad boy bikers and lots of misogyny, and while there are some issues with that, the show is so much more. So much more. The characters are so well developed and so interesting and though I would be happy with more female characters, the ones in the show are awesome, and layered, and different. Technically I've already finished this season once, with J. over break, but I'm starting again because I can't wait any longer. And, to be shallow, the hotness is overwhelming. Ron Perlman, people, even when playing a biker having to deal with his aging, breaking down body, is incredibly hot. He and Katey Sagal have some smoking chemistry. And my absolutely favorite character, Opie (Ryan Hurst), has this grizzled lumberjack look to him, and apparently in him that hits my buttons, because so hot! SO HOT! Sister K finds Jax (Charlie Hunnam) the best looking, and J said I would, too, but I don't. I can't quite put my finger on it; he's attractive enough, but, though I wouldn't necessarily call him pretty, he's too pretty for me.

You guys, this show! It has motorcycles and attractive men and women with guns and tattoos, obviously, but also boxing, and telling stories from beyond the grave, and parent/child issues, and male friendships which are deep and loving and loyal mostly without them being uncomfortable about it, and a trike(!), and an unpublished manuscript, and an Elvis impersonator, and the breakdown of the body and the loss of control and power that brings, and people trying to be good parents and good children and good friends, and oh, man, so many buttons pushed.

There are also some really beautiful camera angles and shots. I was shocked.

Mostly, this show makes me miss my family. This and Roseanne. Which says some things about my family, I guess, but mostly good things.

(I am going on a Sons of Anarchy friending spree soon, because there isn't enough SoA on my flist right now. As in, none.)

(I just watched the World Premiere interviews here, and, um, Hunnam's actual accent is fairly hot. That changes some things.)

(I love the sound of leather in motion.)

The icon I'm using, the scene it's from? Broke me right open because of family things. This show is really good.

(This vid "37 Stitches" is really good, though it suffers from talking head syndrome a bit. (I blame [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop for the way I pay attention to that. Spoilers, duh.)

+ Primeval

Okay, so I'm done watching season one and two, but I want more. I didn't expect to love this show as much as I did, but I should have - dinosaurs and monsters and people with guns and government secrets and interesting characters. It's like Jurassic Park but even more awesome. (Which is saying something.)

I'm still watching Bones, and am working my way through Crusoe and Fringe. (Fringe is getting better.) I'm dvring Friday Night Lights now that it's back (though I missed the first two episodes, I think), and Supernatural, Terminator, and Ugly Betty are waiting on my dvr as well.

Ace of Cakes sounds AWESOME. I could totally get into that.

Is Fringe really getting better? Really? I tried so hard to like it, but the brainless science really ticked me off. But I'd love to be able to enjoy it.

It really is. I'm not even sure how I started watching it; possibly it came on after a Paula Dean show. It's incredible. The cakes they make seem absolutely impossible, and each week there is at least one which I would do many, many things to have for myself.

When it comes to Fringe, and brainless science, my bar is really, really low. It's getting better for me, in that it can hold my attention now. (It took me months to watch the first episode, because I kept starting it and then it just felt blah and I'd stop watching it.) I don't think the science is getting any less brainless, but it's interesting enough to mostly keep my attention. (I tend to answer emails while watching it, but I usually multi-task.) My guess is, what annoyed you about it originally is still there, but it couldn't hurt to give it another chance.

Alright, you and Mimi have me convinced, I'm adding Sons of Anarchy to my DVR list as soon as it shows up as an option. Any ideas when season 2 starts? Or where to find season 1? Didn't look like it's out on DVD yet....

I also love Ace of Cakes, though I haven't watched lately.

I hadn't even heard of Ace of Cakes until a few weeks ago. (Or maybe I mean months - I might have found it while studying for finals back in December. Still, not long.) It's fabulous.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I think season two starts in September (it was renewed for another 13 episodes) and season one will be on dvd shortly before that.

I know places like hulu and surfthechannel have tv shows available to watch online, so you might want to check there.

It's really good. I think you'll like it, just based on your love for Fast and the Furious.

Thanks Mimi!

You might (probably) have to remind me when S2's getting ready to start again, but I'll watch S1!

Yay, a Primeval fan! I love this show. I was watching it initially to see Douglas Henshall, but stayed for the wonderful relationship he has with his team, until of course Helen messes things up. But wonderful wonderful stuff! And I'm sorry, but Connor and Abby are just too cute to live! ;)

SoA was too violent for me. Although full of pretty and I might reconsider at some point.

PRIMEVAL! MORE! I wants it! The S2 finale broke me a little bit. (Okay, a lot.) I am so excited to see what happens now.
