writing and books and looking for stories

I think J. has become obsessed with the Spider-Man. Every time it is on tv, even though we own both DVDs, he feels the need to watch it. Yes, he's turned it on now, while we ate Chinese and while I try to write. I'm not feeling well, and it seems the whole family has passed this around this week. At least I got it on the weekend, where I don't have to miss work (though I felt like crap yesterday, too, and today I missed the triker meeting).
I've written, oh, approximately 3,000 words today, though, and I'm still going strong (more or less) so it's not too bad.
Serenity on Thursday, this time with manymany people, most of whom have not seen it. Also not a long drive because we'll be going to the St. Louis show. I am excited and, as usual, anyone who would like to meet up before feel free to contact me.
Maybe this time I'll post my thoughts. The weekend following it is not as hectic and packed as the last time (five days off, five days of nonstop traveling). Maybe I have a chance.
I have an urge to read fanfic for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, preferably the books, but the movie would work, too. I read the first book when it first came out and the others immediately as well, but I've only ever bought the first one, yesterday. (I read so many books on whim when I worked at a bookstore. I miss that. I miss being in the know.)
I refrained from buying the latest Preston/Child book, Dance of Death, to my surprise. I just didn't like Brimstone as much as Still Life With Crows, and I tend to adore every other book and not really enjoy the ones in between until a third read, so I didn't want to pay full price. I'll order it off of amazon one of these days, or used, or something. (For the record, I adored The Relic, Thunderhead, and Still Life With Crows, liked Reliquary but not as much as The Relic disliked Cabinet of Curiosities with a passion until the third reading, and was very blah about Brimstone. I've not read The Ice Limit or Riptide, but I also don't think those are Pendergast novels so I can wait.)
(Also also, is Tyrannosaur Canyon the sequel to Preston's The Codex? I enjoyed The Codex much more than I expected, because I like the combination of the writers so much I doubted I'd like only one at a time. It was sloppier than I expected, weaker, but still good. I like the name of the new one, at the very least, and I'll probably buy it (and The Codex because that was another read through work) when it comes out in paperback eventually.)
In non-book news (but close):
I don't even know if you read this journal,
crazylady42, but did you see the new Lost magazine? Pricey but ... well, honestly, too pricey for me.
I now have a paid journal for a little while. I need new icons. Yay.
