I don't know if I just miss the meta normally or what, but it seems like the latest Supernatural episode just brought out all the good meta from everyone. Even things with which I don't agree, I am appreciating the way they're written, and enjoying the chance to see other people's thoughts.

Tonight I'm (probably) off to a secret (in a silly way) concert, and am currently loading music on my iPod to prepare for it and I have to go get ready to leave shortly, but I wanted to put up some links, in addition to the thoughts I've already posted.

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool says exactly what I've been thinking about John Winchester in a much more coherent way.

Quote:

And the thing is, Dean isn't hearing, "I'm trusting you because I know you can do this -- you've done everything I've ever asked and more and I'm so proud of you, and how much you love Sam is what's going to save him and you both" when John says, "You have to keep Sam safe, and if you can't, you'll have to kill him."

Dean hears, "You're going to fail to keep Sam safe - hey, remember that time with the shtriga? - and you're going to have to kill him."

[livejournal.com profile] winterlive has an interesting take on the coming war.

Quote:

i think old yellow eyes is acting on his own. i think he's gone AWOL from the Hell Corps, and he shouldn't be here. he shouldn't be doing what he's doing. and if Hell were to catch him, he'd be in big trouble. there is a delicate balance here on earth, there are rules by which the supernatural operates. very strict rules. and for the demon to take over a reaper like that... that's not done. there are consequences for that sort of action.

[livejournal.com profile] femmenerd has some interesting thoughts about women in Supernatural which contain only mild spoilers for "Hunted".

Quote:

I'm not sure I was entirely clear in the previous discussion, but I guess my main point was that I'm unapologetic about liking women on SPN, not so much in terms of individual characters but in their existence in the 'verse. And I want them to be there for more reasons than just for the boys to lust after or rescue or mourn, which I think is happening more than in the past as the universe they live in expands.

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool has some more interesting things to say about John, Dean, and Sam, as well as Gordon, and a fun theory about Ash.

Quote:

Gordon's character worked much better for me in this episode than in "Bloodlust." I think the actor's performance has improved. I believed in him as an effective antagonist and as someone who was genuinely convinced of his own righteousness. And hink it's really interesting that he's so invested in convincing other people -- particularly Dean -- of his righteousness. It's almost touching, how he's so sure that others will agree with him if he just makes them understand, and how he really wants somebody (particularly Dean) to understand.

So, in conclusion, I really like Gordon. More on this later.
