Fandom: Dear Yuletide Author 2014

Dear Yuletide Author,
Thank you for writing a story for me! Yuletide is my favorite fannish time of year. Before I get into any extra details, I want to say that I am excited about your story, no matter on which fandom(s) we match. I love writing stories for people for Yuletide, it brings me so much joy, and I hope you have a lot of fun and a wonderful experience writing for me. (And that Yuletide stress, which seems almost inevitable sometimes, is as minimal as possible.) I can't wait to read your story!
You can find me on DW, LJ, AO3, Tumblr, and Twitter as escritoireazul, though none of these accounts are very active lately.
I am always down for adding werewolves to a fandom. Always.
General Information
For Yuletide, I tend to prefer happy, joyful stories. I cannot handle character death, particularly the death of a mother figure. Even if it's in canon, I would really prefer the story either be au to that death or simply not touch on it. I tag a lot, so if you're looking for more information about a particular fandom or what I've written in that fandom (surely I'm not the only Yuletide writer who looks for this), that should be easy to find.
I like all fic ratings, and love both gen and romantic stories. Sex, no sex, whatever makes you happy in your story.
Likes: girl slash, gen, and het more than boy slash, mostly because I really love stories about women; women being awesome and competent and smart and funny and sexy; werewolves and werewolf packs as families and women being amazing werewolves and werewolf alternate universes in any canon; families being loving and protective and a little snarly with each other because they trust each other to always be there; poly families, threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes, as long as it is consensual and not cheating; intricate plots and adventure stories and mysteries to solve; friends and family teaming up to save the world; adoption stories where adoption is treated as totally normal and not a BIG DRAMATIC SECRET to up the tension; siblings as friends and friends as family and families of choice; oceans and full moons; Halloween and horror movies; roadtrip stories and motorcycle rides; mechanics and garages; boxing and controlled violence as bonding; and crossovers, the more twisty and complicated the better.
Dislikes: disrespect for characters of color, queer characters (particularly bisexual and trans* characters), fat characters, or characters with mental illness; character bashing; rape and non-con and dub-con; women feeling guilty about enjoying sex; use of "crazy" to mean bad or dangerous or scary, etc.; Man Pain, particularly White Man Pain; embarrassment/humiliation; animal cruelty or death. While I like kinky stories generally, this year I'm not down for anything except maybe biting, slight bondage, and a little bloodplay, particularly for any werewolves. For Yuletide, no incest.
My requests are in no specific order. I love each of them, and would be absolutely delighted to receive a story in any of them.
Specific Requests
Agent Pendergast Series - Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child
Source Material: This is a series of books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child that generally focus around Aloysius Pendergast, an FBI agent. There is an air of supernatural to the series, though generally the supernatural is explained via science. There are monsters and killers, mysteries and vengeance, and amazing characters. The character I'm focusing on, Corrie Swanson, was introduced in the book STILL LIFE WITH CROWS, a murder mystery set in small town Medicine Creek, Kansas. It is twisty and claustrophobic and gothic and wonderful, and teenage Corrie is angry and snarky and my favorite.
Requested character(s): Corrie Swanson
Sign-up notes: I love Corrie because she is flawed and strong, smart and tough, snarky and vulnerable. I have not read past CEMETERY DANCE, and though I know Corrie does appear in later books, I'd prefer no spoilers from them. I love her and I love STILL LIFE WITH CROWS, and I would be thrilled to see more of her and her new life after that book.
Additional notes: I would love to see more of Corrie out in the world solving mysteries and learning things and being amazing. I'm fine with bringing in other characters from the series, particularly the other women. I do not ship Corrie/Pendergast, because the age difference and power differential is a squick of mine. Relic is my favorite book in the series, followed by Still Life With Crows and then Thunderhead (though Thunderhead has some problematic racial stuff, too).
There's so much potential for Corrie, particularly right after STILL LIFE WITH CROWS. She goes off to school and -- what? Finds real monsters to stop? Solves mysteries? Befriends a bunch of awesome girls and has adventures and romantic entanglements with them? (I would love to see Corrie team up with other smart, competent, funny girls to have adventures.) What did she get up to when she was sent to Australia? What does she do during her year of adventures in NYC?
TL;DR: I love Corrie and want to see her having awesome adventures.
Roseanne
Source Material: This is a US sitcom from the late 80s through the 90s about the working class Conner family living in small town Landford, Illinois. It's hilarious and heart-breaking, charming and dark, wonderful and painful, and chock full of family and all the complications family brings.
Requested character(s): Darlene Conner, Becky Conner
Sign-up notes: Family is the most important thing. No matter what else happens in the story, what I love about ROSEANNE is the strong family bond that ties them together. They love each other SO MUCH, even when they're fighting, even when they aren't getting along, even when they aren't speaking to each other. I want a story that is full of their love and familial ties, full of the heart that the show did so well.
Additional notes: Some of the things I would love to see include a post-apocalyptic world, a supernatural AU (werewolves or werewolf hunters or witches [PRACTICAL MAGIC meets ROSEANNE, maybe]), or slice of life stories about being a family. I am very close to my siblings, particularly my sisters, and love sibling relationships, the love/hate, fight/protect dynamics.
The season finale brings even more possibilities. While I didn't hate season 9 the way a lot of people seem to, I am really intrigued by the idea that the entire show was Roseanne's story of her family written in the aftermath of Dan's death. The changes that season finale touches on are really interesting, and I would love to see something along those lines, showing us the truth hidden in the story.
Mostly, I want a story that is full of their love and familial ties and the heart that the show did so well. Family, family, family, sisters as friends, friends as family, bickering and fighting, disagreeing and supporting, and the love the binds them together through it all. Please don't feel limited by these characters. There are so many others on the show who are also amazing, I was simply limited to a four person nomination list when I nominated the fandom.
Blue Crush
Source Material: This is a movie about three working class young women trying to survive in Hawaii, while Anne Marie makes a name for herself in pro surfing after being sidelined by a head injury.
Requested character(s): Lena
Sign-up notes: What I love best about BLUE CRUSH, even more than the beautiful Hawaiian scenery, is the friends-as-family going on between Lena, Eden, Anne Marie, and Penny. I would love to see more of that explored, particularly from Lena's point of view. We get a lot of Anne Marie in the movie, of course, and quite a bit of Eden in relation to her, but Lena is more of a mystery, and I want to know more. I love laid-back Lena and her guitar and her grin. I'm a big fan of Eden/Anne Marie and Eden/Anne Marie/Kala, but I also love Eden/Lena and Eden/Lena/Anne Marie. Gen fic about Lena would be awesome too.
Additional notes: My partner grew up in Hawaii, and I am inordinately fond of it because of that. I love the local versus tourist dynamic and the beautiful secret places. Chosen family, the friends-as-family mentioned above, is my favorite thing in stories, ever, and I would love to see more. How did Lena and Eden end up living with Anne Marie and Penny? What were they all like in high school? What is life like now that Anne Marie is being pursued by sponsors? What kind of adventures do they have when it isn't competition season?
What was Lena like as a child? Does she have family on the island still? Is she close with them? I would love to see a large, loving family for Lena, one that supports her and lets her have her freedom at the same time.
Ms. Marvel
Source Material: Ms. Marvel is a Marvel comic book. Kamala Khan is the current Ms. Marvel, and she is a Pakistani American Muslim teenager who idolizes Carol Danvers (former Ms. Marvel), is involved in fandom, and, oh yeah, has shapeshifting powers and gets to be a superhero.
Requested character(s): Kamala Khan
Sign-up notes: What I love best about this run of MS. MARVEL is Kamala Khan being awesome and learning to be a superhero while balancing her friends and family. Family is so important, and I really love the way Kamala tries to respect her family's traditions and worries while at the same time doing important, world-saving things. I also love Kamala and her fanfic and the way she is so damn excited about superheroes. Mostly, I just want more Kamala. I love her so much.
Additional notes: KAMALA. <3 I love Kamala Khan SO MUCH. I love how she questions her faith, how she wants to protect her family but also be true to her superhero abilities, how she is so delightfully geeky and awesome. I also love Kamala's friendships, particularly with Nakia, and would be happy to see them having adventures together, as well as romance between them.

Date: 2014-10-21 04:59 am (UTC)... fine, fine, she can probably do without the werewolves though.
