Good morning. Here are the cutest pictures I've seen -- well, honestly, probably all year, if not longer. (Link from [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight)

A pair of Sumatran tiger cubs and a set of young orang-utans, all abandoned at birth, have become inseparable after sharing a room at an Indonesian zoo.

My favorite is the third picture where the orangutan is reaching out to help feed the baby tiger. They all terribly cute, though, and I want them!

Edited to Add: I can't remember from whom I got this link (I've had it up in a tab for a few days now), but chimps are making pencils and it's pretty much the coolest news this week.

From [livejournal.com profile] musesfool, "Up With Grups: The Ascendant Breed of Grown-Ups Who Are Redefining Adulthood." I don't know that I agree with everything in the article, and it's still trying to define people slightly older than me, which continues to make me wonder how my generation is defined, but some of it sounds familiar and it made me laugh.

Long day at work, lots of problem solving, and then about 3 p.m., a nice crash of energy and caring. A slump, I guess you could call it, and frustration because of the lack of direction, bla bla bla, perfectionist, will I never figure out how to control this? Anyway, slump, so I got dinner and came home, and now, almost five hours later, I'm starting to settle and feel a little better.

I need to get rid of some books. Maybe I should call my sister, see if she wants to go through the discard boxes. Maybe I should just go buy a Corona.

The Red Ranger from the original Power Rangers is doing gay porn now, plus has buffed up some (they say, I don't remember what he looked like before). I used to watch that show once in awhile with some of the kids I baby-sat, and once had a fabulous dream about the Red Ranger. It was dirty and delicious. In the dream, he was damn buff, so I think that's why I'm not seeing the weight lifting change to him, because as soon as I saw the picture, the dream was what I remembered. How strange. (links from that link not too worksafe, I guess)

The New Blue is an a capella group from Yale and you can listen to their songs online. Though some of the versions are a little too forced-dramatic for me, I have fallen in love with their version of "Both Hands" by Ani DiFranco.

In non-link news, I am alive and untouched by the tornados. The weather has been strange, sunny during the day which fades to wicked stormy at night (Saturday night it was pissing down rain and the sirens were all going off and of course my sister and I were on the road at the time, because that is just how things work for us), but we've had no damage.

Busy weekend, no time online until just now, so I'm behind. Probably won't have time to catch up until next weekend, when I work again (and will miss the St. Pat's parade, but that's okay). (I work this week, too, I just mean I work on a weekend again, because I agreed to take it from one of the guys so he can see his kids go play basketball.)

Really need to finalize my travel plans for Wiscon here sometime soon.

Today is International Women's Day, and I'm almost late with this here, but that's okay. Throughout the day I collected articles about IWD and favorite female blogs and all sorts of things. I love women (and not just in the pervy sexual way) and want to celebrate women. Plus when I got home from the gym (oh, I have a gym rant coming up, if I take the time to post it, damn gym), I taught my mom about IWD. Which, very cool, because she taught me a lot about being a strong woman who stands up for herself and goes after what she wants (in some ways because she didn't do those things when I was younger, but also because of the way she turned herself around and taught herself to be strong and stand up to men).

So anyway.

International Women's Day is the universal day that connects all women around the world and inspires them to achieve their full potential. It's a day to love women, to encourage them, to honor the work of past women, to take stock of what still needs to be done, and to celebrate women. We shouldn't need this day, every day should be a celebration of women and men, of life, of all nationalities, but it's not. Along with this, March is Women's History Month.

So I give you links about International Women's Day. Go tell the women you know how strong and wonderful they are, and how many great things you know they can do.

links below, updated as I see more )

I was going to do a post of my favorite women around livejournal, but that's going to have to wait for another day. I think you're all wonderful smart and powerful and inspiring and dangerous, all my favorite things in the world.
