Fanfic Author Appreciation Week
Fanfic Author Appreciation Week: You post a fave author for each day, March 6 through the 13. Tell why you picked them, give some links to their fic, say why you love them, their work, why they need more appreciation, and just wax poetic about your favorite authors for the entire week.
I'm glad I found this just in time to weigh in on the first day. I first came into active online fandom seven years ago and the first fandom I was involved in was Buffy the Vampire Slayer, specifically the Willow/Angel 'shippers.
There were literally hundreds of stories I loved and dozens of authors I couldn't stop reading. I could fill months of reccing their stories, even though most of them either don't write anymore or don't write BtVS fic anymore. In fact, I may go back through and rec all the stories I used to read and adore.
Bewitching Angel: The Home of the Willangel mailing list is a good place to find some of the other authors I considered, links to their sites, and a ton of stories.
I waffled back and forth, but finally decided to rec Carrie, because I'm still anxiously waiting for her to finish the sequel to my favorite story of hers and she definitely deserves any additional attention.
Carrie's Fanfiction Page houses a few stories by her, but my favorite is Take Your Time.
From her site, a semi-summary:
This is in answer to Jessica Nasca's challenge for a fic where Willow goes back in time and meets Angelus before he was vamped. Please keep in mind that this was started right after the episode 'Becoming'. At that time, Joss had told us that Spike was turned in the early 1800s by Angelus in episodes such as 'School Hard' and 'Becoming'. He later messed with this, but I'm sticking with his first idea. So, Angel is Spike's sire, not Drusilla, and he was sired before Drusilla, not after.
It is an incredible, detailed story that will sweep the reader along. The pairings in it aren't always obvious but are believable and powerful. She uses specific details to build the setting and mood and has a flair for good word choice and incredible description.
The sequel is It's About Time and though it is still in progress, it deals with the fallout of time travel in ways that are believable and emotional. Again I love her use of details to reveal characterizations that ping true to me and how I read the various characters, especially in the unusual scenario.
