Fandom: Yuletide

OMG why isn't it Yuletide time yet? I want to write all the Yuletide stories!

Because of this, I have already started organizing this year's December Drabbles. EXCITED.

Also, debating whether or not to buy the Avengers movieverse collection, which is awesome, but would totally throw off my dvd storage. And also, no digital versions, that might be a killer for me.

(Though I will have a 3D projector after I move, so all the 3D copies will be good.)

I want Yuletide RIGHT NOW.

What are you nominating as of this moment?

Right now, my biggies that I want to write and read in are Young Avengers, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Static Shock, Capital Scandal, and The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I feel about 98% sure that other people will nominate the first two, which leaves me with one more space that I'm still considering -- maybe my perennial favorite YouTube video (if I requested, it'd be for ALL THE AUs, this year)? The Red Star? I'm trying to think of SUPER OBSCURE things that won't be nominated otherwise, but that other people would also enjoy!

Oooh, those all sound fun, even though I'm not at all familiar with any of them (except the vid, of course). Maybe I should do a meme where I ask people to rec Yuletide things to me, so I can catch up on new source materials. Hmm.

I'm thinking about going for a fantastic(ly cheesy) werewolf theme: Never Cry Werewolf, Cursed, Silver Bullet (au with sisters), Ginger Snaps, and Dog Soldiers (werewolf point of view). Definitely in a werewolf mood lately (though unlike the rest of fandom, it seems, I did not watch season two of Teen Wolf. I will, eventually, I guess), but I'm not sure I want to limit my selections so much.

I'm also considering at least offering more game fandoms this year (and maybe nominating some too), because I had so much fun writing Echo Bazaar last year.

I love the themed nominations idea! :D Werewolves definitely seem to be hot this year; Teen Wolf has EXPLODED on Tumblr. Do you think you'd do more games along the style of Echo Bazaar, or were you thinking of other types of games?

No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (HBO, based on the book series) and Capital Scandal (kdrama) are my FAVORITE SHOWS EVER; they're both just one season, one with six episodes and one with 15, so I'm definitely going to encourage people to look 'em up when the 'hey, check out this canon!!' post goes up this year. I'd highly recommend both of them, with no reservations. Fabulous casts, fabulous ladies.

Static Shock is an early-2000s cartoon based on Milestone/DC teenage superhero Static. It's cheesy and ridiculous and terrible in its own ways, but usually not in a put-a-foot-through-my-TV way, and its depictions of family and friendship made me super happy. The fact that they had a really diverse cast of characters was such a breath of fresh air, too, and I was pleasantly surprised by the subjects they addressed that usually aren't touched by Saturday morning cartoons, even if the execution was clunky in places. I just finished watching the entire series on YouTube -- bless YouTube and people's childhood nostalgia.

And "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries" are a modern-day Pride and Prejudice YouTube adaptation (Lizzie is a media studies grad student who vlogs), where all of the characters have Facebook and Pinterist and Twitter and Tumblr accounts so you can follow the threads of the story all over the place; I make faces at it sometimes but it's mostly pretty charming. I'm really ready for the inevitable Yuletide fic where somebody doctors up fake tweets and Tumblr posts and goes bananas with that whole aspect.

I love Young Avengers and The Red Star, too; they're just harder to get people into, since YA is tied to decades of Marvel comics canon that you have to delve into, and Red Star is an incredibly obscure comic from an independent publisher that seems like it's going to go unfinished at this point.

And now I have practiced my view-my-canon rambling for the day, at you; sorry!! If you were potentially interested in having new canons recced, the order in this comment is probably the order that I'd rec in.

Yeah, I figure if I don't try to get people into Never Cry Werewolf now, to ride the Teen Wolf and Vampire Diaries popularity (NCW has the main actress from TVD in it), it may never happen for me, Yuletide or not.

I'm not sure, game-wise. Well, I loved doing Echo Bazaar, Pioneer Trail, and Oregon Trail, so any of those type of games. I'd be interested in other types that are accessible (both ease of locating, and not first person point of view for video games, because they trigger my vertigo). Did you have thoughts on games?

I was totally interested in having fandoms recced to me, and this is awesome! I'm going to get started on the first two for sure, and the others as I can work them into my schedule. Yay new things for Yuletide!

HMM! I'm generally not much of a gaming person; I pretty much just play the Sims and then iPod games like Angry Birds and Draw Something. (I kind of want Angry Birds Yuletide fic.) When I lived at home and could steal my brother's consoles, I would sometimes play Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption and Final Fantasy-ish RPGs, but that's about it! I love Oregon Trail so much, though -- my childhood!!
