Fandom: Gilmore Girls Hates Loners

I've been slowly working my way through Gilmore Girls (oddly, too, because watching reruns has me in season two and season four at the same time, which is a little freaky), and I enjoy the show, but 2.07 "Like Mother, Like Daughter" really made me mad. In fact, I'm only ten minutes in and I considered ending my watching of the whole series because it made me so mad.
Maybe it will subvert it, but this idea that being a loner (or someone who is a loner only in certain situations, which better describes Rory in season two, I think) is something horrible that has to be corrected no matter what is bullshit. BULLSHIT.
It isn't just the school, either. Even when Rory and Lorelai talk about what they consider actual loners, they describe it as the bad type of loners, you know, those scary kids with long trench coats and crazy hair and probably bags of dice because they play table-top RPGs or something.
I am angry. Being a loner, or being particular about with whom you choose to associate, or not wanting to be a part of all the clubs and cliques and events and fundraisers and whatever isn't a FLAW to be FIXED. Being antisocial does not make you a bad person.
Being a loner, being antisocial, doesn't mean you aren't involved in this, either. It doesn't mean you don't care about things.
I do not have an angry enough icon for this.
