I did it! I was good all day - cleaning and organizing and purging, and now I get my reward.
First, WOOT! I love this spinoff!!! Which you knew I would. I even love the summary. Favorite bits:
the way her words rattled against her teeth and stuck to her tongue,
You and your sensory descriptions!
Letty didn't stop shoving things into her bag, weapons mostly, but clothes, too, to protect them.
(missed this the first time, such a lovely little gem of a detail)
She left tread marks on the driveway and the delicious smell of burnt rubber stayed with them for miles.
Leaving her mark on a world falling apart around her.
Letty stared at her through the window, and blinked so slowly the world disappeared for long moments.
Boy, I've been there. Great way to describe the mental and physical exhaustion.
There wasn't enough grief in the world.
It *needs* its own paragraph.
Maybe he'll lead us to your Dom.
Hee. I peg her as a Switch, not a Sub, though. (I am twelve)
I don't know who lived, and I don't know who died. Probably everyone. Or maybe they still don't want to call."
YES! Thank you for bringing that up. Drives me up the wall and down the other side.
Something came in the back door, but Letty didn't open her eyes. If it was something supernatural, it might notice even that slight movement. If it wasn't, no matter, she didn't need to look anyway.
I like all these little details that remind us over and over that she's changed now, fundamentally.
Once, if pushed, she would have named him her destiny.
I can't imagine what it was like put your everything into one thing and have it shift on you. He was who she was.
It might have worked, too, if Faith hadn't put him into the wall when he flopped on top of her in his bed.
Ha! Nice. Reminds me of Anne of Green Gables, too :)
She could break it down fast as anything and put it back together, but he didn't know who the hell she was. She'd show him.
Oh, so Faith. SO Faith arriving in Sunnydale.
She had been used to it, but she had spent too much time in smaller towns and the middle of nowhere, hunting monsters. She took the fresh air for granted.
Again, she's changed. New person, old person's skin.
Then you're the only one left, and no one even bothered to tell you. The only way you even know is because you felt it when she died, and you're the world's salvation, and you're locked in a fucking cage. You deserve to be there, but the world shouldn't be left on its own."
Owie. My poor girl. I sent Angel to tell you in my fic, Faith! It's okay!
"Cars were my thing," Letty said. Her throat was tight.
Real ouch. I can completely see her despair when he said that.
She was reminded way too much of what she'd been like back then, and how it felt to want so much and not know how to get it.
Faith, Letty, Faith, Letty, my poor girls.
Faith lit a cigarette and then handed it over before Letty could steal it.
Lovely detail that shows their dynamic. Kind of like Two Weeks' Notice when they trade tomatoes and ice from their drinks automatically.
L.A. sure was full of monsters these days.
Yeah, ANGEL.
Just means you're fucked too, and me 'cause I'm left alone with the BSs, and maybe the world, if you're the one who's supposed to be in the right place at the right time during the next apocalypse."
Oh, please don't leave her alone. Faith's been left alone all her life.
"We don't get to do everything."
Ain't that the truth. Such a sign of maturity on Faith's part, too. She's finally hit that point.
In short, LOVE. Love love. Thank you for my birthday fic.
