[livejournal.com profile] musesfool wrote Love Is a Fool Star, a five-things story about Mal and the five ways he did not have sex with his crew. I'm fond of a well-written five things story anyway, and Victoria's Mal voice is fantastic, and some of these scenes (most of them, I have to admit) are heartbreaking.

I kind of love heartbreaking, in the way where kind of means more than life and love means adore and can't stop reading. Except in a way that would make sense if actually substituted in the sentence.

Link from [livejournal.com profile] winterlive, Prince closes out "Whilte My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the Rock & Roll hall of fame with a guitar solo, and, as [livejournal.com profile] winterlive said, it's like a musical orgasm. Just--wow. So much wow.

Also, "While My Ukulele Gently Weeps". I'm a fan of the ukulele, mostly because J. just wouldn't stop playing Hawaiian music for me whenever he got homesick (which was a lot of the time). (I miss Hawaii too.)

Okay, I'm wasting way too much time on this site, but, mostly so I'll remember, reworking of Canon for the guitar. I love classical songs rearranged into more rock tunes. I blame this on the fact I was a classical pianist for so long.

[livejournal.com profile] minisinoo wrote a very interesting essay about length in fanfic, and how novels aren't just long versions of short stories, and other such things.

Personally, I was a novel writer first, and it's only been over the past few years I've been able to write short stories and, dare I say it, poetry. I used to hate writing poetry, and refused to do it, but slowly it grew on me. I even did performance poetry for awhile, and I miss writing and performing it, though I don't necessarily miss some of the other aspects of that particular writing group. (I do miss some of their poetry, and some of their comments on my writing, because some of they were really helpful, but I had some bad experiences, too, which color every thought I have about it, unfortunately.)

I can't seem to put together any thoughts today, so I'm just going to link to things, as usual. Someday I'll be able to join conversations in a timely manner.

I realized today, as I gathered books to update my book database (what, it's a good way to keep track of what books I have, especially those in series; I haven't always kept it, but since I've been sorting and unpacking and getting rid of books [the horrors! and actually I've not gotten rid of much, just boxed them up with the intent to get rid of them, and I've never taken the next step], I thought it would be a good idea to keep some sort of track of what I have and what I need. So far it's up to 812 books, not counting the dozens of boxes of books to get rid of, and the dozens of boxes I've set aside to reread just in case I want to keep them, and the dozens I still need to open from the move [and yes, I realize it's been over a year now--holy crap, I mean, I realized, but I had no idea, I've been away from the job from hell and that life for over a year now]), I've received a lot of new books, some I ordered for myself, but some as gifts.

Ones of note I've received within the last week:

cut for book list )

I have nothing much to say except I love books and I'm always looking for more book recommendations. Do you have any?
