title: some things should hurt
author: Carla
disclaimer: Riddick belongs to David Twohy, etc.
setting: pre-Pitch Black
summary: some things hurt. some things should hurt, but don't.

cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] riddick100.

Fingers in a flame should hurt.

Riddick, at ten, knows pain. He remembers what it’s like to be strangled. He wakes up some nights and bites back screams until his throat aches. In his nightmares he can feel the umbilical chord against his skin and hears laughter even when he’s almost awake and sleep is fading. Riddick knows how cartilage feels when it breaks beneath his fist and how easily skin splits on the edge of a blade.

He pinches the fire and it fizzles out. Riddick looks at his fingertips, makes a fist, wonders what else he can end.

Man, I just can't stop with the drabbles these days. I'm avoiding rewriting a maze scene in the novel, which is harder the second time around than I expected. Gah.

New Lost tonight. It was ... eh. There were wonderful scenes, but I really didn't want more Charlie backstory. Really the only time I like Charlie is when he's with baby-mama Claire.

spoilers )

I really need screencaps from Lost, especially tonight's episode. Does anyone have any links?

I've heard we may get some Hurley backstory sometime in the next few weeks, and I will be so hapy. Locke is my favorite, but Hurley is a close second and I can't wait to learn more about him.

I have candles burning all over the room, because I don't want to pack them. It's nice, watching them flicker, but I am going to miss my candles. I've had these two candles that look like ornaments for years and they are burning into neat purple wax melts. It's very pretty.

The packing is coming along well. Still no word from the law schools, but I'll continue to be patient and spend my time writing and drabbling. I want to finish draft two of the novel this week, but we'll see.

Nick at Night (I think?) has these commercials for Black History Month using spoken word performers and it's actually very neat. I miss poetry and performing. I miss the power of verbal communication and reading in front of an audience. The energy is incredible, the give and take, and the noise when you make a point people can understand. I miss the power and the joy of writing and reading about topics that most people shy away from. I miss making a splash, being a giant wave on a small beach.

All of you Harry Potter fans and Buffy fans must go read this story.

Older and Far Away by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool is amazing. It matches up Remus Lupin and Xander Harris in a way that fits, both the universes and the characterizations. Remus is a fabulous narrator and through his eyes we have so many world-building details and such wonderful characterization. There is a mention of Giles that killed me with the perfection. Remus gets caught up in their trouble and it's wonderful. Xander sounds like himself awkward and endearing and confident all at the same time.

Go read it. You really won't regret it. I'm desperate for more.

On another note, I really need a better mood theme.
