The epilogue? Can you say cheesy? Oy. I really liked the ending where Harry just wanted to get some sleep much better
Word. Sleep, and a sammich. Mmm, resolution.
Also, I really wanted Harry to die; I have this love of stories where the hero dies at the end. You'd be surprised how rarely it happens. (I wanted Buffy to die, too. I though the end of season five was a much better series end than the actual series end.)
WORD. I actually pretend, sometimes, that "The Gift" was the last episode; for example, I own every season of BtVS . . . except the sixth and seventh, which I have not seen at all since they were aired.
Yes, I hated them that much. "The Gift" = Win
I really, really hated the deaths of Tonks and Remus. They were both coded so gay, and then to marry them off, procreate them off, and then kill them off -- it's hard not to read that as a statement against homosexuality
Wow. Yes. I hadn't really thought about that -- during first reads, I'm usually more into the agonizing over how things are written -- but you're totally right. The entire Potterverse is very heteronormative . . . whether that's because they're YA novels is up for discussion, but, despite the legions of slashers scaring up subtext, it's really not at all gay. As you said, there are characters that are "coded" gay -- trixiefirecra made a really interesting argument the other day about why Ginny is a GBL (http://trixiefirecra.livejournal.com/113867.html) -- but the universe is so not-at-all-gay that there's not even really a question of being gay; they can't follow through. There's really strict juxtaposition for some things in the novels -- say, "good" versus "evil" -- but then there's just a tiny margin of sex and gender that has no balance, no other option at all . . . like "heterosexual" versus . . . blank, wanting void. You know?
