"Two Regrets and One Farewell"
This is one of those three-things-which-didn't-happen fics, in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and it starts out like this:
"Carmen regrets a lot in her life, but mostly she regrets three ways her life could have gone but didn't."
I. Carmen regrets she didn't kiss Tibby sooner, and it took her all the way up her fifteenth birthday to do so. She also regrets she liked boys still, and hurt Tibby with her crushes, because when Tibby said, "I love you," Carmen thought she meant, "I love you like a friend I kiss, my sweet September" even though that wasn't anything like what Tibby would say, and they weren't dating, and Carmen knew she was really thoughtless sometimes.
II. Carmen regrets she kissed Lena at all, but she just wanted her to feel better, and Lena didn't have much luck with boys, look at Kostos and Paul, and she thought she could help, for once. She offered to pose and let Lena draw her, which was wonderful, but then Carmen, sitting there in the mottled light coming through Lena's bedroom, realized she wasn't helping much at all, because Lena's art was wonderful but she was still lonely, and Carmen got up while Lena was still entranced in the drawing, and she kissed her.
Lena freaked out, Lena wasn't gay, Lena didn't want kisses from her September sister, and things just haven't been the same.
III. Carmen regrets she never kissed Bridget, because maybe she would have tasted the strength flowing away, the way Bridget, at college, did too much and forgot all the lessons she'd learned about life and love and trying too hard for things she thought she wanted, and there were too many ways for her to hurt herself. Bridget was always good at finding them all, and Carmen wishes she hadn't been so caught up in her own life.
She doesn't believe in fairy tales, but sometimes the stories are true, and maybe a kiss would have saved a life.
"Daisycutter Blues"
Though I never would have thought I'd want to write a story about it, this is a Far From Xanadu story, set while Mike is away at the camp, trying to forget how much she loves Xanadu. During the day when she's running or playing or lifting weights, she's able to put it out of her mind, but at night when she sleeps she dreams of that one night together, the way Xanadu made her feel, the way Mike was able to touch her, make her arch and moan and make noises so loud she could hear them through the walls.
Then one afternoon some of the girls on her practice team tell her they're sneaking out to go drinking, and they're all going to dress nice, no more sweats or shorts or uniforms. Mike doesn't do nice dress, but she wears jeans and a clean shirt. Some of the others dress like Mike, but some of them wear dresses and skirts and make-up and one wears her hair down for the first time, and Mike has this thing for long hair, and though she's noticed the girls she thinks are really pretty, it's not until she sees her dancing under the flashing lights, alcohol in one hand, that Mike realizes she's falling for her, for Daisy. And then Daisy approaches her, kisses her, and it's the start of something good, something which doesn't quite erase Xanadu, but comes close.
Of course, they're only there for part of the summer, and eventually Mike and Daisy have to say good-bye, and it's really bittersweet, but Mike's learned a good lesson, that the first love doesn't have to be only love or best or anything but just that--one love, the beginning of a good romantic life.
"Toes to the North"
This is a Rogue story, in X-Men movieverse, and maybe a Rogue/Logan story, though it could also be a Rogue gen story. It starts when she runs away from home in X1, and the way she can hear her boyfriend's voice in her head, and how she has to wear so many layers and she sweats the South out of her body, out of her body memory. It's about being lost and alone on the road, and the way she makes Alaska the beacon of her salvation, where she won't be strange for covering all her skin, where no one will ever know her past. It's written in crazed chunks, stop-action moments of her nomad life, until it all comes into sharp definition again when she watches Logan fight.
