Right now I am reading The Courtesan by Susan Carroll. It is the sequel to The Dark Queen (but I actually haven't read that one yet... I'm too into this one!). It is a historical novel mixed with fantasy about the reign of Catherine De Medici in France. It's well... not the BEST written book, but it has some echoes of the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey, and until Kushiel's Scion comes out, echoes are the best I can do.
The main character is, of course, a courtesan, and that always makes me happy. There is political intregue (which is a word that I can never spell), romance, and drama. I find myself giggling and gasping over the plot twists and rooting for various characters and their motives as I read it between classes.
If you've not read Kushiel's Legacy DEFINATELY read that. But if you have, and your looking for something else to fill the gap... you might consider picking up this series. It's certianly not bad.
