Overall I would say that I usually enjoy Riordan's books, but I also always wind up compartmentalizing and wanting to throw the book due to unexamined shittiness (racism, sexism, and ableism, just off the top of my head) at least a couple times. His books have come a long way since the Percy series when the entire starring cast and like 98% of the supporting cast was white and literally everybody was written as cis and het, but he still fucks up on the regular. Remembering just How Mad I used to get at those older books probably colors my feelings on the newer ones. It's been ages since I read the first Magnus book so I don't remember the exact details; I hope it gets better!!

(I think the series doesn't require a read of Percy Jackson; there are some short appearances from Magnus's cousin, who's a character from the Percy books, but that's about it iirc.)

Amazon keeps trying to feed me books related to Norse mythology and I've been considering taking it up on this one, which I haven't read but I'm seriously contemplating based on the strength of its title alone. NORSE CODE!
