Fandom: Splice

So, uh, if you saw trailers for Splice and thought, as I did, that it looks like a sci-fi/horror movie -- cheesy, maybe slightly scary at moments, lots of mayhem and genetically engineered monsters, basically a fun movie night movie -- you may want to read this detailed, potentially triggery, and spoilery review/critique. (Link from [livejournal.com profile] apocalypsos here.)

I have never been so happy to be spoiled for something in my life, because if I'd watched Splice based on the trailers and ended up with what that review says, my rage explosion would have been massive.

I may actually still watch it, now that I've been warned, but I'm not sure I want to deal with some of the scenes.

I... I'm so glad I read that review. That's a startling disconnect between what they're promoting and what the movie actually contains. I did wonder, when I read that Sarah Polley was in it - I wouldn't have expected to see her in typical sci-fi fare, but it makes more sense now. She seems to be drawn towards stories with dark themes.
