Ten Things About Me

I hate talking about myself. In fact, I've started this list twice, made it halfway through, and deleted everything. I don't know why.

1. I am a female feminist. I have been called a feminazi, but mostly in jest. I'm not particularly violent in my feminism (though in other areas of my life I am, so maybe it wasn't in jest), but I believe no one should be treated as less important, less able, less intelligent, less anything because of sex or race or any other factor.

2. This is my fandom journal. I try to keep it separate from the non-fandom journal, so mostly this is fannish (shocking, I know) and mostly the other is filled with personal information, rants, beliefs, etc. There is some crossover, because I am not a neat little box. I state my opinions here, but try to avoid the long rants. (For example, I work in a field dominated by men. I have many complaints about this, and often get extremely angry. I don't rant here.) If you're interested in the other, let me know and I'll provide a link.

3. I like the women. I like the men. I like the women more than the men. I try not to objectify, but I have unconditional lust for Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Seth Green, and Eliza Dushku. (There are others I find attractive, but those four? They kill me with the lust.) I am happy being bisexual, and am out to my friends but not my (conservative Christian) employers or my (conservative Christian) parents (though my mother may know, because my siblings know). My parents have already had to deal with the fact I don't plan to a) have children, b) get married, c) teach, d) write books they are interested in reading, and e) date people they understand why I date. They will soon have to deal with some other changes in my life. I figure I'll come out to them once I've killed all their shock levels. They're old, I don't want to give them heart attacks. (They are supportive of everything I've ever done. I don't think this would change anything.)

4. I am multifannish. I have never been involved in just one fandom and the list keeps growing. I love my fandoms, even the ones where I'm not very active (which, these days, is most of them, but I still love the shows and the fandoms). I have been a fan and creating fanfic in some form or another for my entire life, or at least since I started making up stories. (I started young, too, before I could read, and I could read way before school.)

5. I love stories. Written or verbal, I can't get enough. I tell stories in and out of fandom, I create pictures which tell stories, I tell stories through the spoken word, through music--everything is a story. Sometimes this makes me feel as if I'm not actually living life, but creating a story, which is both better and worse than it sounds, but. I think oral story traditions are fading too fast, and to lose them is to lose greatness. I believe the same thing about physical copies of books, despite how much I love the internet.

6. I am always overbooked and always feel I'm not doing enough. I worked three jobs (approximately 70 to 80 hours a week) and went to school full time for a long time. Anything less makes me feel like a slacker. Because of this, I never have enough time to post the thoughtful entries I want to post, especially on fannish topics. You are all amazing and make me think.

7. I am horrible at communication. This means I am bad at answering emails or comments. I am trying to get better, but I've been trying a long time and it is a slow process.

8. I don't picture people well. I mean correctly or often. People are their icons or their stories or their fabulous intelligent posts. So I will say I'm almost six feet tall, and I'm fat, and I'm strong. I have long, curly, dark blonde hair which goes down to my ass and is probably the most femme thing about me. I wear it down and curly and then wear t-shirts, cargo pants, and combat boots. I like myself, though I would like to bench press more weight than I do now, though I used to be stronger.

9. I love the west coast. I love California and Hawaii is my heaven. I do not currently live in either place, but I will again, and soon. (Well, soonish.) I can say this having been to all but one state in the U.S. (Alaska, and I will go, but I hate the cold, so not any time soon), Canada, Mexico, and Spain. I want to travel everywhere, but live in one of those two states. (Preferably near Santa Cruz or Ewa Beach [though it gets toasty in Ewa during the summer].)

10. Did I mention I love Vin Diesel? I don't know what else to say here. I don't like talking about myself, can you tell? I like photography and manipulating pictures and making pretty things. I hate to sleep, I feel it's a waste of time. I'm afraid of spiders. Oh, I know. My best friend is [livejournal.com profile] thestalkycop, and I think she's the greatest person in the world. Every single day I'm thankful we're friends, and I don't even want to think about a life without her in it. She's amazing and creative and inspiring and intelligent and fabulous.

I'm going to bed. I don't feel well.

Well, this is a hard meme to do. I did something similar a while ago and I'm not sure I'm going to attempt this one, but then again, you never know. You sound really cool, so there you go!

The one big thing we don't have in common is that I love to sleep and I sleep a lot and often. It feels good and I'm not one to deny myself any pleasures! *G*

In number 8 you forgot to mention that you're absolutely beautiful.

And I'm very thankful that you're my friend too. I also wouldn't know what to do if you weren't in my life. Damn this rotten time difference between us - and damn my busy evenings recently. I may be online tonight, it's Nerd Night and Adela will not be coming, so I may get on the computer, and I certainly will be online on Friday, because my friends are coming up for the weekend and won't be arriving at my house until about 11.30pm, so I'll be online waiting.

Miss you.
