[fic rec] The Village trilogy

I love this movie but don't read a lot of fic for it, probably because I find the movie so enchanting I rarely find fic which captures me in the same way. There's a mood, a breathlessness I'm left with while watching the movie, and this trilogy of fic captures that perfectly well.

"How the Blossoms Grow"
Summary: What has been hushed, as silent as red petals laid in earth, and saved.
(A delightful exploration of homosexuality in this world.)

"All the World to See"
Summary: Beginnings and endings always travel hand in hand.

"Crow on the Cradle"
Summary: Wherein time passes, decisions are made, and consequences are discovered.

These stories are beautiful and together build this incredible world and develop characters which didn't get a lot of time during the movie.

Ooooh. How awesome. Sometimes I think I'm the only one who actually liked that movie. *bookmarks for later*

I hope you like the stories! I love the movie so much; I thought I was going to be disappointed because it wasn't a werewolf movie (I mean, I'd figured going in that it actually wasn't, but something about it just pings as werewolf movie to me still) but I ended up just flat out loving it. I know a lot of people hate the twist, but I don't mind it; I think it's a stronger movie when it is just showing their lives and their fears, but the whole thing is wonderful. I love it and am enchanted by it and will now have to watch it tonight after talking about it so much.

I will be joining you on that - because I now owe [livejournal.com profile] pickledixy a new Village story since he guessed the line! And also, geez, thank you for the lovely rec <3 I forget about these stories all too often myself, although I have to say, the movie remains in my top ten, at least, favorite films. The acting is so honest; there's this stunning, fragile grace about it all that just takes my breath away...

OMG!!! You're a The Village fan!

Dude, I thought I was the only one! I literally loathe his other movies, but the Village? Genius. Gorgeous. Sad. I guessed the twist practically from the trailers, like most of my friends, but I didn't care about the fact of the twist, so much as the lead in, the reasons, the consequences.

I'm so bookmarking this page. I was strolling through, looking for fic and reading your slice-of-life type entries (your neighbors? Are awesome) and found a kindred The village Spirit!
