escritoireazul: (vin running out of time)

[fandom] awesome things

So they've started writing the script for The Hobbit. You know how many Tolkien fans feel about LotR? That is how I feel about TH. Growing up, it was the Tolkien story I loved best, even though LotR had my girl in it being awesome. I am a tiny bit nervous about the new movies. Excited, though.

---

The Mac/Windows commercial where Windows is a king and he tries to banish Mac? Too precious for words. I seriously ship those two anymore.

---

Vin Diesel to direct and star in a 20 minute prequel to Fast and the Furious 4. Michelle Rodriguez is going to be in it too. I just died a little. Out of happiness.

Vin Diesel beats up everyone in science fiction. "I'm Vin Diesel. Don't fuck with me."

God, I love it when he has a new movie out. The entertainment just keeps coming.

Re: F&F4 prequel - They filmed in the Dominican Republic! I am *so* looking forward to this, like *please* don't make us wait until the DVD comes out! I love Vin and Michelle together.

I know! I am so excited to see Vin again, and Michelle again, and then for them to be working together - it is almost too much! I can't wait! It will never been here soon enough.

I may have to write some fic to pass the time. Or, go reread yours again. That would definitely help pass the time.

yes.

also, i just watched the lost boys: the tribe. do you know of any fic revolving around the reunion of the coreys scene? because i kind of need some.

I do not, yet. The part of fandom in which I participate is still kind of reeling from the sequel. I haven't seen it yet. Would you be up for another viewing of it, too? Because I'm pretty sure I'll be interested in writing fic.

I'll watch it again with the understanding that it's *awful* (I think that if it were a fandom I was active in, I'd be reeling, too). I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed watching Corey Feldman in action again, though.

I beg forgiveness, as this has NOTHING to do with your post (although I love The Hobbit and the Windows v. Mac commercials).

But since you are probably one of the most well read people of supernatural/ghost-y/werewolf-y/vampire-y stories on my flist, I am dying to know what you think of the Twilight series. I don't know if you've read them, I'm not sure if you've heard about them (I hadn't until May) but I kind of just want an opinion on them from someone who has read lots of similar things before and knows what she's talking about.

I have one friend who keeps trying to get me to read them but I keep hearing they're a lot of crap. I thought you might know best.

I have read all four of the Twilight books. I don't really like them, but I don't hate them either. They're not very good; the writing is sloppy and could use a strong edit. There are some messages in them with which I violently disagree (mainly about the lack of agency in the main female character; the way stalking is presented as romantic; the way all the women are obsessed with having babies and their lives aren't complete without them; and the way marriage is the be all and end all of life).

On the other hand, there is some excellent mocking and commentary going on around them, and I can't stop reading it. I particularly love [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's (often lengthy) recaps of the books, and would recommend you read them.

I don't know that you'll really like them, but I think you might enjoy reading them in order to get more of an impact from the discussions. (Plus, if you don't like them, it helps to have read them when you debate the problems with people who like it.) I would not recommend you pay money for them if at all possible; hit the library, or other resources.

Basically, they are crap, but the mocking commentary (mocketary?) I keep reading about them is a) hilarious and b) made reading them worth it to me.

I will hit up the library then. Thank you, Carla :)
