fanfic question

In BtVS, when the monks implanted memories of Dawn, was it just in the people of Sunnydale, and/or family members (their Dad, for one), do we know? Did Angel have memories of Dawn? If someone hadn't been in Sunnydale when Dawn arrived, but had been close to Buffy for awhile, would they remember Dawn after that point?

I've finally settled on a format for one of the stories I am writing, and inspiration on another. Which is good, because one is late and the other is due shortly.

From what I remember, Angel did have memories of Dawn.

At one point in season 4 Angelus called Buffy's house and said "Hey Dawn, is your sister there?" So he knew about her - I suppose someone could have told him after the fact, but he was so nonchalant about it I got the impression he remembered her.

But I do wonder: when that memory spell box was broken removing the "Conner never happened" spell for Wesley, did it cancel all memory spells in the vicininty? Meaning, did Angel no longer remember Dawn either?

It didn't cancel the memory spells as also bring forth the suppressed set of memories--Wesley, Illyria, Angel, and Connor all have two sets of memories. So at most Angel might remember the version of seasons 1 through 3 that we saw in addition to the version that the Scoobies remember.

And yes, in Angel season 4 both Angel and Faith have memories of Dawn.

In addition to what people said about Angel and Faith, I've always believed that people who knew Buffy, however tangentially, would have vague memories of her little sister, that various kids in LA remember Dawn as a classmate if not a friend, along with teachers, people she passed in the street, and so on. Not that all the memories are as clear and vivid as Buffy's, but, you know. They do exist.

That's why I always feel like the incredible power of the monks's spell is overlooked. That's one damn powerful piece of magic.

Even before AtS season 4, when Angel visits Buffy after her mother dies, I would assume Dawn is discussed. So, yeah, I think anybody who knew Buffy knows about Dawn.
