Fandom: Dear Yuletide Author 2024

Letter complete as of October 20.

Dear Yuletide Author,

It’s my favorite fannish time of year: Yuletide.

Do Not Wants and general likes, followed by fandom-specific details, below. If there’s a discrepancy between the DNWs/general likes and the fandom-specific details, go with the fandom-specific. Mixing and matching fandoms and prompts more than welcome.

My absolute favorite things: werewolves, crossovers and alternate universes (the stranger and more unusual the better), and monsters and magic.

I’m [archiveofourown.org profile] escritoireazul at AO3. Treat option is enabled.

General Likes

+ chosen families, friends as family, strangers to friends to family through wild adventures, reluctant allies to friends, friends and family teaming up to save the world
+ alternate universes, a non-exhaustive list: werewolves, witches and witch hunters, IN SPACE, horror movies, haunted summer camps, ghost hunters, portal fantasies, monsters, canon divergence, weird west/wild west (I particularly like the outlaw feel of it, untamed and wild, big spaces with nowhere to hide, big woods claustrophobic around you, danger at every turn, as long as the AU avoids the magical Indian/savage Indian/white savior aspects of the trope)
+ threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes, in all configurations (so long as the woman/women are not ignored in favor of the men)
+ monsters of the week, casefic, adventure stories, mysteries
+ crossovers and fusions so long as my requested characters are the main characters
+ tropes, a non-exhaustive list: wilderness survival, huddling for warmth, forced proximity, friends to lovers, enemies to friends (to lovers), there’s only one bed oh no, fake dating, survival horror, abandoned ships, burial at sea, burial by fire, crashed on a deserted island, ghost ships, not-so-safe harbor, locked-room mysteries, came back wrong
+ kink (female top/dom only except for biting and bloodplay): biting, light bondage, impact play, rough body play, bloodplay for supernatural characters, fireplay, marking, sensory overload, orgasm denial/control, pegging

Do Not Wants

+ character bashing or villainizing
+ rape, non-con, and dub-con
+ embarrassment/humiliation
+ harm to a dog
+ permanent character death for my requested characters
+ a/b/o or werewolf stories with Big Tough Alpha Male tropes
+ pregnancy, including mpreg

Pushing Daisies: Olive Snook, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles

It's been a rough few years, and again this year, my letter is not nearly as detailed as it used to be. Some sections may be longer than others simply because I pulled from previous requests. I want all of them equally. You can find old letters under the Yuletide tag if you want to see what I've written before.

Across the board, AUs I love: Werewolf packs. Teaming up to survive horror movie scenarios and save the girls (summer camp killers, haunted houses, cursed objects). Adventures in Space. Jaeger pilots. Elite athletes. Scientists fighting underground monsters. Weird west. Surviving inhospitable locations.

Amazon "Red Riding Hood" Commercial: Red Riding Hood

What I Like About the Source Material: Little Red Riding Hood retellings. The dark, creepy atmosphere in the woods juxtaposed against the cheery, welcoming lights of home. Red's raised eyebrow when the wolf is at the door. The narrator conceit. The Big Bad Wolf being a Good Boi.

Prompts:

Red with her pet wolf. Red with her pet wolf pack and all the dog toys she buys them.

Werewolf big bad wolf dealing with how it feels to be a good boy in wolf form when they're a real human person the rest of the time.

Red and Gram the werewolf hunters.

Monsters in the trees.

Heists and spies.

All the secrets Red carries.

I ship Red with all sorts of women who are werewolves and werewolf hunters across a wide variety of fandoms. If you go the route of a werewolf big bad wolf, I ship that too, especially if the werewolf is a woman.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid, Etta Place

What I Like About the Source Material: I watched this for the first time only within the last few years, and I was shocked at how much I loved the interactions between Butch, Sundance, and Etta. The love and the angst, the learning and the teaching, the tension between each of them. The wildness of the white man version of the untamed west.

Prompts:

They never split up after leaving the US and escape to other locations to be queer and do crime.

They can't quite turn straight but they can't quite go back to being robbers, so they become antiheroes Robin Hooding across wilderness and small towns somewhere in the world.

Adventures in South America before things go terribly wrong.

Secret dreams, secrets they keep from each other, the strange things they hide from the world.

Train robbers in space.

They find monsters in the wilderness.

We survived celebratory sex. Etta tops both men, and they love it more than they ever expected. All the tropes, of course. Huddling for warmth, bed sharing, arranged marriage, fake dating, praise kink.

Pacific Rim AUs, the Drift as a short-cut to intimacy.

I ship the three of them together and otherwise not at all.

Gods of New Asgard - Tessa Gratton: Vider Bearskin, Signy Valborn, Glory | Fenris Wolf, Astrid Glyn

What I Like About the Source Material: The way the gods are and are not involved with the human world, how they can and cannot be trusted. The worldbuilding around gods being real and the way that changed the history of the world. (One thing I hate is the treatment of the indigenous people and [lack of] characters; though there are a handful of references to what happened when the Norse gods and their followers came over, mostly they are erased from the narrative, with the exception of Soren’s Pacific Islander ancestry.) The characters, strong and weak and fierce, afraid and brave and driven, loved and loving, and burning to make the world better in ways that seem right to them.

Glory the werewolf fated to devour the sun, a wolf bound into a teenage girl, hunger raging unchecked. Vider the trickster who chose to become a berserker, who set aside her god and followed someone new, who clings to her strength and her ferocity to hold a place in the world that is not for a trickster girl or a berserker but cut into her own shape. Astrid torn from the strands of fate who weaves herself back into them, not quite a goddess and not quite a girl. Signy the Valkyrie, brutal in all she does, writing her rage into battle and blood and poetry, bloody with love and hate.

Prompts:

The stories of these women cross and separate, twine together and spin apart. I want to see more of them together changing the world for good and for bad.

What it means to be a monster. What it's like to fight a god. What it's like to be a woman who hungers for more, for strength and power and love and freedom and approval and belonging.

Teaming up to fight more monsters.

Fighting the gods themselves.

Finding ways to keep Glory occupied so she can ignore her hunger and hold of Ragnarok one more day, and another, and another.

Hunting with bands of berserkers, with the other valkyries, with actual werewolves who worship Glory as a god of their own.

Gods and warrior women in space. Time travel. Weird west.

Fighting leads to fucking. All the tropes, of course. Huddling for warmth, bed sharing, arranged marriage, fake dating, praise kink, tending wounds, battle couples.

I ship Astrid/Soren, Astrid/Soren/Baldur, Astrid/Soren/Signy, Astrid/Signy, Astrid/Glory, Signy/Glory, and Glory with all the women werewolves and werewolf hunters from a plethora of other fandoms.

The Mummy (Movies 1999-2008): Evy Carnahan O'Connell, Ardeth Bay, Rick O'Connell

What I Like About the Source Material: Adventure and humor all wrapped up together. Evy's love of her work and her confidence in the face of people dismissing her. The easy way she falls in love with Rick. All three of the competent in different ways, balancing each other.

Prompts:

I'm more familiar with the first movie than any of the others, and like it best, but you are welcome to pull world building details from the others.

Alien artifacts in other worlds. Fighting the dead deep in the jungle or in the ice and snow. Cursed objects, haunted places, and all the trouble they can find, accidentally or on purpose.

Monster hunting. Pacific Rim AUs with drifting and science and discovery and monsters.

Heists and spies. Jewelry come to life. Secrets and strange things they hide from the world but share with each other.

Sex magic. Rituals. Evy topping them to their utter joy. All the tropes, of course. There was only one bed, praise kink, competence kink, hurt/comfort.

I ship the three of them together.

Pushing Daisies: Olive Snook, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles

What I Like About the Source Material: The sweetness and love and care threaded through this strange and slightly macabre world. The way they work through all their complicated emotions and life experiences and situations. Friends and lovers and found family.

Prompts:

Solving more murder mysteries now that Olive knows the truth.

Navigating the painful reunion between Chuck and her aunts and the way her return complicates Olive's friendship with the aunts after keeping Chuck's secret for so long.

Magical realism with Chuck and her bees, Olive and her horses. Dogs and cats, pigs and birds. Animal familiars and sweet, odd witchcraft. Baking magic.

Gentle femdom, competence kink, accidental dating, Olive touching Chuck since Ned can't and that growing into desire and care between the women. Touched starved people coming together. Food as a love language, as a flirtation, as a romance.

I ship Olive/Chuck and Olive/Ned/Chuck.

Willow (1988): Sorsha

What I Like About the Source Material: Sorsha and her swords, her prowess in battle, her drive to prove herself to a mother who disregards her at every turn and uses her only for her power. How shocked she is when Madmartigan compliments her while he’s under the spell, and her anger when it goes away. The way she turns on her mother to save the world. Madmartigan trying so hard to be a chaotic antihero but unable to hide his heroic side. The brief history with so much potential between Madmartigan and Airk. The worldbuilding, the magic and warriors and brave Willow and just everything.

Prompts:

I have not seen the show.

Sorsha fighting battles before and after the movie. Sorsha proving herself as a warrior and a woman and a queen.

Superheroes, monster hunters.

Sorsha the werewolf.

Bavmorda temporarily wins and Sorsha helps run the resistance.

Sorsha's complicated relationship with Bavmorda, mother and monster. Sorsha as her mother's warrior, her mother's sword dripping blood. The difficulty of leaving that behind to do the right thing in the end.

Bavmorda's magic torn from the world leads to storms and terror and monsters, all sorts of terrible things to fight and survive, and Warrior Queen Sorsha must lead the way.

Swords in space. Sorsha the princess in a world where Bavmorda rules unchecked. Sorsha the queen who killed her mother and took the throne. Jaegar pilots. Possessions.

Fighting to fucking. Sorsha topping Madmartigan and/or Airk. Enemies to lovers. Sex magic. Arranged marriage. Princess Sorsha's sexual exploration with her guards.

I ship Sorsha/Madmartigan and Sorsha/Madmartigan/Airk Thaughbaer.
