[fandom] In Plain Sight
So. In Plain Sight premieres on USA shortly, and I am super excited about it. I hadn't even heard about it until Friday night, when I lounged around on my sick bed watching television for the first time in ages. Between then and now, I've heard so much about it that I'm thrilled and really hope it lives up to its potential.
We shall see.
I don't know if these movie marathons are typical - I certainly don't remember television doing such fun things this often, and I've only not had tv for less than a year, but I am thrilled by it. This afternoon was the first two Pirates movies (and, let me tell you, I still love Ana-Maria and Tia Dalma, despite all the problematic parts of the movies). I also left my suite for the first time since Friday and went to the store. Then I drove around, up the mountains a bit.
It's gorgeous here. Absolutely, unbelievably gorgeous. I need to start walking and exploring more after work, and next weekend for sure I will get out and do something fun.
(Hee. The last time I marathoned these movies was last summer, when
nikitangel and I watched them in preparation for the third movie. We had such fun.)
Yay! The show is starting! Maybe I will have a new fandom!
The thing which distinguishes people in Witness Protection from the rest of the people is that someone wants them dead? Psh. I'm pretty sure that's not true.
Okay, so far, not all that impressed. Bring out the US Marshall, people, so I can see her bad ass, hot ass self. Oh, yay, there she is! With a gun. And an attitude. I like her already.
Oh, Detective Bobby D. is also a hot ass. HOT ASS. "You're the branch of law enforcement that puts criminals back on the street."
Okay, so far, female lead, female coroner (I think, but still, the one with the info), black male officer in charge of the scene of the crime, Ukrainian woman as the witness she is hiding. A sister with a penchant for boosting cars.
This is a really interesting idea, exploring the people in Witness Protection. How hard would that be, to give up your past? To give up your friends and your family? To give up everything?
I dislike the way the main character uses "little girl" as an insult to her partner. (I think he's her partner.)
Woah. Disliking the anti-Native American talk right there in your threat, Mary. Even though the show kind of tries to critique it, somewhat.
I'm enjoying Mary's relationship with her mother and sister, though.
I am really disliking:
1) The presentation of Native Americans.
2) The Anita Blake-esque all the men want Mary. Also, her Anita Blake-esque attitude. Or maybe I mean Mary Sue-ish attitude? You know, I like tough women, but this seems over the top tough? I'm not sure how to word it.
3) The gendered insults.
4) The stilted dialog.
However, I will watch it again, see if it gets past its first episode woes. Besides, I don't have most of my dvds here, so I need entertainment.
Um, I may actually get sucked into So You Think You Can Dance while I have television this summer. I just saw a preview, and it actually looks like it might be fun. I enjoy watching people dance.
We shall see.
