Fandom: 30 Days of Fanfic: Day 13 Fanon or Canon

All 30 Days )

13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

Generally canon, though my writing can be influenced, intentionally or not, by other people's writing, just like everyone else's. I don't tend to have a set personal fanon; there are generally plenty of places where the canon doesn't answer all the questions (or gives multiple contradictory answers to one question), and while I like to explore different possibilities in my reading and writing, I don't usually get so hooked on one that I can't enjoy others. (I love to hear people's personal head canons.)

Fandom: Yuletide nominations

My nominations have been approved already! How exciting. I've been working on the requests part of my dear author letter, and now I'm even more excited.

Things What I Nominated:

Life is Strange (Video Game)
Maxine Caulfield
Chloe Price (Life Is Strange)
Victoria Chase (Life is Strange)
Alyssa Anderson

Long Live the Queen (Video Game)
Elodie (Long Live the Queen)
Brin (Long Live the Queen)
Selene (Long Live the Queen)
Banion (Long Live the Queen)

The Turn of the Story - Sarah Rees Brennan
Serene-Heart-in-the-Chaos-of-Battle
Louise Sunborn
Rachel Sunborn

Both the video games are new fandoms I picked up from other people's Yuletide fandom recs, and I am so excited about the potential stories. I've never had video game fandoms myself (though I've written a few stories for Yuletide before). The last one I'm not sure I'll request; most of the fandom is super into the canonical m/m, and it is awesome, but I am in it for the women having adventures. We shall see.

What has you guys excited about Yuletide?
