[television] Heroes

Short reaction:

(Partially from a comment I made to [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight.)

First, get your X-Men references correct, writers. Close doesn't really count, even as close as you were.

I'm going to have to watch it again when it airs tonight because I missed the first ten minutes or so, but I think I like it.

I love Mohinder, he's fantastic and interesting. I look forward to seeing more interaction between Peter and Nathan, though I don't look forward to Peter/Nathan. (One show whose fandom is filled with incest is enough for me, and Supernatural has filled that slot.)

I really like Claire and her video-camera friend, and I'd love to see him stick around and see more of her.

I'm kind of eh about Nikki, except the whole reflection thing (she is the one with the reflection, right? I really do need to rewatch it tonight) was very interesting and just a little creepy.

I got the impression from the end of the episode (maybe even the preview for the next) that Peter's and Nathan's powers only work together. Or work better together. Or something along those lines.

I'm definitely ready for another episode.

I love the cheerleader breaking herself, and running into the fire, and the determination of the video-camera friend. I liked Hiro, and his desire to be special. I really like the way Claire and her mother interact, and I fear what's going to happen with her father. I'm prepared to be upset if they play the whole "we were helping her [Claire]" as "all the mens to rescue the girl".

I'll keep watching. If they go for the "oh, I just want to be normal" from more than one or two characters, I will probably quit. I'm tired of that. People want to be special, and I love the way last night's episode caught it.

I liked the subtitles as comic book word bubbles. I heard this was done in Night Watch, too, which means I need to see it even more than I already did.

Shorter reaction: I'll watch the reairing tonight and I like it.

I have a question: what exactly was Nikki's power? The reflection? Is there a superhero in the comic books who has that power? I'm confused.

I got the impression that it's kind of an alter-ego/Incredible Hulk kind of thing, maybe? She goes into a rage and her mirror-self takes over and, er, stabs people a lot? Maybe we'll get to see just exactly how that works, at some point...

I think almost everyone was confused by Nikki. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight's response to this comment, but I hope it's written a lot more concrete and believable than it was in episode one. Claire's ability to heal that fast, okay, I can believe it, but the way the reflection was presented (or rather not hardly presented at all) drove me crazy and I just can't suspend my disbelief.

Which is sad because it could be so well done, so creepy and wonderful at the same time, like a twisted Alice Through the Looking Glass type deal.
