My advice would be, if at all possible, don't get the pre-packaged stuff. Get the meat from a deli instead. Most grocery stores these days have some kind of deli so you shouldn't have to go out of your way. I always get my sandwich meat from the deli; it's only a couple bucks more expensive but there's a huge difference in taste (to me, at least). Plus you can get whatever quantity you like, so if you don't think you'll eat much of it just get a half or a quarter pound at a time or whatever. You may actually save money since you won't be throwing out meat you don't use.
