I marched in NYC. Didn't carry a sign, but wore a "Fuck Trump" button. I like your sign a lot.
My response: COMPLETE AND UTTER BULLSHIT. For so many reasons, including: protests don't have to be peaceful; the people you are demanding learn from you have been protesting more and harder and better than most of you have ever done; women of color in particular do so much fucking work you should be learning from them and their work (and paying them for it); and the reason there has been so much less police violence is because the majority participants of most of these marches ARE FUCKING WHITE.
Exactly, especially that last part. Because this was a white march the NYC police were in plain uniforms and acted more like traffic cops than anything else (and to be fair, this is a NYC thing now -- one of the things our mayor has been good about is putting an end to racist stuff like 'stop and frisk' and militarized police. But I understand that this was a thing in other cities too because these marches were white). Had this not been a white march they would've showed up in riot gear, armed with pepper spray and rubber bullets. And this is why more white people need to also get involved in BLM marches, etc. and to use the privilege given them by the color of their skin to stand up for and protect those vulnerable to police violence and abuse.
