I think there is nothing wrong with defaulting, even after the default deadline, especially the way this month was so unexpectedly rough for you, but I also think that you can get your story done if you decide that is what you want to do, and your recipient will enjoy it. I will cheer you on if you decide to go for it.

I'm not sure if it helps, but it's probably not hurting me, so there's that, at least. And you should always feel free to vent here.
