New Who: Donna Noble. Loud-mouthed, compassionate, fucking indomitable. The only female companion in New Who who wasn't in love with the Doctor, but wanted friendship.
Famous Five: George, who wanted to wear boy's clothes and have short hair, and since her parents were absent minded science types, she got away with it, and so she stands out amongst the most cliched of Enid Blyton's characters. The first character I read who didn't want to be pretty or social or even feminine, but was entirely awesome. (Those books were crappy, but George was awesome.)
Twilight: Alice Cullen! ILU, Alice. She does what she wants, when she wants, with whom she wants. Or she'll twist your head off like a bottle top.
