[movies] Nochnoy Dozor (Night Watch)

Instead of the Oscars, I'm watching Nochnoy Dozor (Night Watch).

Hey, that's one way to get my attention! Start off with a war and have women in armor. Also dark others versus light others. That's always fun, a war between similar people who choose different paths. Also, blood and swords and awesome, awesome armor.

Eww, spider! I could have done without that. Gross.

Shapeshifters!

Truce between good and evil to allow everyone to choose between good and evil. Also, stop motion in the middle of the war to make the truce.

One chosen one will come, stronger than any others before him, his choice will destroy the balance -- yadda yadda yadda. Except I'm a fan of that kind of tale, obviously.

Vodka, blood, and lemonade for a spell. Sounds yummy.

I really like their accents.

Woman who turned into tiger. That's gorgeous.

Shots of blood to increase certain abilities, I think. That's also interesting, as these people are human just plus.

I certainly hope that's not how he does his vodka shots, he drinks kind of slow. Blood is thicker, though, so probably more difficult to drink.

Oh, the light other is friends with a vampire who got him the blood and now the vampire's dad is upset because they're friends, even though he gave him the blood - this is really a lovely film so far.

One vampire tempting another vampire to drink blood. Now a vampire torturing a guy with scissors. This is, um, odd. Cool, but odd.

Ooooh, back flip of doom, there, and he broke the vampire's teeth. God, it's hilarious.

The soundtrack is damn good, too.

Car flip of doom, too. This movie has some fantastic things -- WOW! Light in a flashlight which hurts the vampires. Nice! Also they can appear and disappear at will. That's pretty awesome in and of itself. He's using mirrors to find them, that's a neat thing.

Wow. The vampire turned to stone (or, um, ceramic) and broke. That's gorgeous.

Oh, their seer is dying. I'm not really sure what sliding him down the table is going to do, but it was a cool scene. I also like how this guy -- the guy in charge? -- is saying how everyone has to be able to fight, from the actual officers to the cooks to the programmers. So true. Anyone who can't fight is a liability.

The seer saw the end of their world, or something like it. Nice.

Oh, this is cool, the boss is making the seer take him back to what he saw when he saw the vortex. He taped one eye closed, belted their heads together, and then they're back in the scene together.

That's a gorgeous scene, crumbling stone buildings and the full moon and "I thought she was a vampire, but she was something else, something worse."

Oh, it's the vortex of damnation. Not just any vortex.

Moscow has a tornado warning. That's nice. I like how they use the weather to track the problems.

The woman was the virgin. *sigh* Why is it always a virgin? Though this virgin carries misfortune with her, everything she touches dies, children die when she visits their house. The first one was -- oh, it was a human cursed by a human, and the first one introduced evil into the world. (Of course, it's always the fault of the woman.)

It is easier for a man to destroy the light inside himself than to defeat the darkness all around him.

That's gorgeous.

Oooh, concert with fire. I wish to go to Russia.

This music just keeps getting better and better.

Hee. The night watch gives licenses to bite when a vampire wants to turn someone.

Oh, that's clever, holding out a jar of blood to tempt a vampire.

Oh, the shapeshifting of Olga, the owl, looks painful. Some nice effects there.

Awww, the vampire friend is pissed at the night watch guy. Shame. Not pissed enough to keep from helping him, though. He's talking about how the truce works.

No more commentary from me, I'm just going to watch and enjoy.

I think I would like to read the books.
