More constructively - I think you've got a really good grasp on Brashares' style here. Carmen and Bee come across as a little flat, though I suspect that's because Lena's focus isn't on them. But in a story that includes how Lena loves all the Septembers, perhaps another line for each showing some life might really flesh it out?
